I did search the forum and did some reading on F meal selection... I have 2 upcoming flights CDG-BKK and BKK-HKG

So far what I have read is ex-BKK lobster dish (as well as many others) is crap. So, this is what I have right now

CDG-BKK: Half Lobster With American Sauce (Lobster)
BKK-HKG: Oven Roasted Rack Of Lamb With Caramelized Orange, Served With A Spicy Marinade Sauce (Lambrack)

Or has anyone tried the scallop dish (The Ideal Of Pan-fried Scallop In Oive Oil Served With Provencale Sauce Which Made From Tomato Concasee, Garlic, Olive Oil, Herb And Seasoning, Accompany With Parisienne Potatoes And Glazed Vegetables) ex-BKK?

I wish this is like on a cruise, I can try a few dishes. :D

Thai should get their kitchens to present the lobster the same way that Etihad does, in small medallions in a mustard cream sauce. By leaving it in the shell it is a tug of war for starters to get it out and without any cream it is as dried and tough. Still it is a lobster, you know how it is going to turn out and at 30,000 or at ground, there are a lot of people who haven't had one, at $80+ a plate , we know why.

The Salmon travells well, so does the Scallops, the Duck is not your HK style, but it is not too bad. I did like the Stir Fry beef strips in the black pepper, but my current favourite is the Minced chicken nRice.

I find the best treats are the entrees and nowdays I use two main courses to graze and quickly move to the cheeses and stock up on some sweets for later when I watch a movie and it is fun to snak.

Avoid the lobster It is simply a dish that does not travel well, at least in the two versions that I have had at 30,000+ feet. Suggest a meat choice . . .

Is the Beef Rossini any good out of SYD?

I had the Beef Rossini last year on the TG flight from BKK - FRA, It was cooked medium well, I prefer it medium rare :( . I am usually a BIG fan of fois-gras, but I found this particular dish too salty (did not know that was even possible at 37k feet :D).

The Pad Thai off the "regular" in-cabin menu is quite good actually. I was offered this when the FA noticed that I had not finished the beef rossini. ^

Better to order off the in-flight regular menu unless you have a particular aversion to certain foods

Just had a beef short rib in red wine sauce from NRT - BKK off the inflight menu and it was amazingly tender. Initially was gutted I forgot to book the cook but ended up with one of the best in flight I've had.

Yes it will. ex-LHR the lobster is a reasonable size.

ex-BKK the pad thai with lobster is good.

I 'd avoid the steak - it is medium-well and dry.

In my past experience, I pre-ordered a meal AND I was still given the opportunity onboard to eat multiple items off the inflight menu! If this is still the case, it makes sense to pre-order a meal and then know that the inflight menu is always there for back-up/seconds. ^

I'll be flying in TG F for the first time later this year between HKG and BKK.

Is it worth doing the pre-order?

I am open to all kinds of food and have no allergies or any sort of dietary restrictions.

I preordered the Lobster Pad Thai. It seemed to be the most appealing to me at the time.

I think next time I would just get what was catered instead. It would likely be fresher.

Thanks. I was thinking about that as well.

If I were to do a long haul F flight from BKK (BKK-MUC for example), I might do the preorder under the assumption that the preorder has a local catering source and would be of high quality and also be as fresh as the normally catered meals.
