Hello!
I just completed a 36 hours journey, including 8 hours transit from Singapore to Buenos Aires. I realised that there is a lack of review of this trip on QR.
This journey is divided into 2 segment, SIN-DOH and DOH-GRU-EZE. The most impressive leg is the SIN-DOH leg, with good food, and good service. 1 meal and 1 snacks were appropriate for the 7 hours flight. Flight- 90% full. Good space and seat is the most comfy. Was able to get some rest.
I had an 8 hours transit in DOH, paid 40USD for the use of transit oryx lounge. Lack of sleeping beds, crowded, and chaotic when paying for the entry fees. I hope the new airport would be better equipped to handle the large transit passengers together who have to spend the night at the airport. 8 hours in the crappy lounge with no sleeping sofa is BAD. food was so-so, dry and cold in the lounge. Boarding at DOH was crappy as the ground crew insisted I need a visa for buenos aires when i do not need one. Confusion over visa for some other passengers at the gate.
DOH-GRU-EZE is a 18-19 hours flight, with a 1 hour layover in GRU, passangers continuing to EZE are not allowed disembark. DOH-GRU is about 15 hours. 777-200L, and the plane was kinda dirty. My seat was not properly cleaned and had rubbish below the seats. Was only served 2 meals and 2 crappy snacks service even though it was a morning flight, and the plane spent the whole 15 hours in daylight. Passengers were constantly complaining of hunger and looking for food. Over 10 hours where the main meals were served. The meals' quality was terrible. I would like to feedback that the electrical outlet is placed under the seat, making it hard to reach the plug to power the laptop. The position is so awkward and stupid because the cramped seat does not has space to allow a passenger to bent down and look for the plug. SQ has the plug right at the arm rest area. Flight crews unable to speak mandarin. There was a tour group from china and cabin crews were unable to communicate with them over the choice of wines, drinks, and food. Not a problem for me, but emirates and SQ would have make sure that there is a cabin crew who can speak mandarin on board.
Change over of crew at GRU, and the cleaning was again, very bad. Chaotic changeover. Flight to EZE was half full, meal service was better, but the state of the cabin had a negative ambience. Managed to reach EZE 30minutes earlier than schedule.
Cabin crew quality was very good. For me, its on par with SQ, better than emirates and cathay. Inflight entertainment is similar to SQ, but emirates have better selection, a wider variety. Food quality, SIN-DOH is comparable to SQ and emirates but let down by the use of plastic utensils (Bad for environment). DOH-GRU-EZE, poor quality food, and cleanliness of plane.
Seat is comfortable, the best of the three airlines which i usually fly. Food Quality and aircraft maintenance seem to be dependent on the airport, which may explain for the undesirable experience on DOH-GRU-EZE. Hopefully for over 12 hours flight, its a day flight, qatar can have 3 meals plus 1/2 snack and improve the quality of food. Please increase the selection of movies, they are just terrible especially for long flights of over 8 hours.
For the price i paid, it is the best value, and I would look forward to traveling with them for my return leg. Hopefully, Qatar Airways can increase the frequency for Singapore to reduce the transit time. Planning to do SIN-DOH-JFK in December but the transit time of 7 and 13 hours just put me off.
The recent internet hitches about online booking and check-in also warrant attention from the company.
