American Express Membership Rewards - Referral offers 2010

In the USA the $450 annual fee provides only one Platinum card, to add three supplementary Platinum cards cost another $175 per year, $625 total. Five Gold cards can be added for another $45, $670 total.

If I understand correctly in Belgium you receive one personal Platinum card, one business Platinum card, one supplementary Platinum card and four Gold cards. There may also be a large difference in the scope of the travel insurance bundled with the card.

I prefer the USA pricing model which allows the cardholder to choose and pay for the number of cards required, but I think you can see that the European pricing is not really very different.

Actually, I receive 3 platinum cards, a corporate card, four gold cards and one base card linked to Brussels Airlines (50€ extra if you want it to be gold). Included are 2 Priority Pass cards, a HHonors Gold VIP, A-club Gold, Hertz #1 Club Gold, Avis Preferred and some less attractive offers, not to mention all free insurances. If it's different in the US, my fee might be interesting after all

CanuckFlyHigh, this offer is for the American Express Platinum Card (charge card) so I do not believe you can use it in conjunction with other types of American Express issued charge/credit cards.

Although the terms and conditions are not explicit about geography, the bonus offer appears to be for US-based cardmembers/accounts.

It is funny that you should ask. I have been having issues as well logging into the website. I called late last week, Friday, and they said that there were known IT issues with the promotion that should be worked out shortly.

Today, I called back and talked with 4 or 5 different people. The circular transfer to India and back again. :mad: Finally, I got a person that said that they were showing that I wasn't sent anything. And, I said that I would be happy to send them the info that I had received both the email and the mailing. I have just sent those off. I don't know if that will do any good in getting me access to website, but we shall see.

I received the promotional offer by mail and am getting the same error message. I am going to send a secure e-mail message.

I sent a secure message about it a couple of weeks ago and all of a sudden it magically worked. Referred 2 people last week so if anyone else wants the 25000 MR signup bonus then just let me know.

If you have been referred, you should receive an invitation e-mail from American Express within 30 minutes outlining the promotion with a customized application link (unless you have previously opted-out of marketing e-mails from American Express).

If you still have not received it, you may want to ask your friend to send another referral.

It does not, and the offer for 25,000 miles is not exclusive to being invited by a friend. The only person benefiting anymore than usual from the transaction is the referee.

It may not be exclusive to being invited; however, it does require that someone receives credit for the referral whether it is a fellow FTer, Promo code, or AmEx's affiliate program with LinkShare.

I know this because when I first signed up I was not given the 25000 MR and had to send a couple secure online messages for them to add the MR to my account. I only found out about the bonus after reading about it on this forum. Also, why not share the MR wealth with a fellow FTer rather then a random corporate site on the internet?

I know Amex Plat had some very nice cruise offers recently by email that included category upgrade and shipboard credit. Also did you check the cruise program offered by platinum travel?

It _think_ it you might find more value to pay for the cruise and use the MRs for conversion to miles.

They decided 10k MR would be a sufficient bonus. Its better than a stick in the eye and after making them credit me more MR last month for some glitches, I am satisfied.

Just a heads up for people who may have missed the 10k/25k referral bonus before applying.

I was able to retroactively have bonus applied. Took some leg work but wasn't bad. About a month after receiving my plat, I saw this offer and had my father call on his saying he had sent me the link but I mistakenly went thru the main amex website instead of the link in email. They verified i indeed had just signed up recently and credited him 10k right away. I called a week or so later, they said I hadn't signed up and wasn't eligible, told them not true otherwise he wouldn't have gotten the 10K. They verified he received the 10k bonus and instantly credited me the 25k.

You can signup with the referral to receive the 25K MR once accepted and you meet required minimum spend. The upgrades are often displayed to peak interest while checking account summaries or paying bills. It does not matter which channel you actually choose to sign up. Hope this helps!

Not sure if this is indeed a genuine statement or false statement..

If it is a false statement, I would get Platinum instantly as I will be traveling quite often in upcoming winter season...^

Question on the MR card. I know that Citi allows basically 1 hard pull per month (for a 3 or 4 month period) in order to approve a credit card. Chase is much more strict and only allows a couple of pulls in the prior 6 months and can not have applied for another Chase card during that time (but YMMV).
