My cousin is going to Cape Town from the Baltimore area this summer. I suggested that she look at a stopover somewhere, especially since her job is paying for the flights.
She has never been to Istanbul and I thought that was a great stopover.
Could she buy a ticket on Turkish Air and fly from Dulles to Istanbul and then stop there for a few days. Then continue to Cape Town from Istanbul (assuming a change of planes in Johannesburg. Then return home after her time in South Africa.
Thanks for the advice.

Sure, why not? Just do a multi-city itinerary search on a site like Vayama, Orbitz, Expedia, etc. It isn't likely to cost much more (if any at all) to have a couple of days stopover in IST than to connect on the next flight to JNB.

I just wasn't sure of the rules for stopovers on Turkish Air.

They're quite flexible. Even possible to book on their own site.
Normally on TURKISH AIRLINES, like every single other airline in the WORLD, there are a variety of fares with all sorts of different rules and restrictions regarding stopovers and the like, while many of their fares do allow for such things, some may not, so just like any other airline like DELTA AIR, UNITED AIR or BRITISH AIR, your cousin would have to look and check.
