Afghan War vet, maybe 20 y[ea]rs old, in wh[ee]lchair, no legs, shrapnel scars on arms--forced [to] lean on each side, do extra screening," radio host Laura Ingraham tweeted this afternoon. She noted that TSA officials at Baltimore Washington International Airport conducted the screening around 8:50 am today.
She added, "TSA folks weren't rude--but come on...our vets--esp recently wounded vets!-- deserve better!
The TSA saving us yet again.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Vet? My sweet Aunt Fanny - EVERY HUMAN BEING deserves better than that! Vet or not, disabled or not, American or not, nobody should have their persons violated by these despicable full-body rubdowns.
Funny - this seems to have happened at exactly the same time as a terminal dump of Piers A and B

But an DHS assessment said returning veterans are a threat (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/16/napolitano-stands-rightwing-extremism/?page=all).
The FBI targeted returning veterans (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123992665198727459.html) before the DHS assessment was released.
While Nappy apologized for offending veterans, she never said they weren't a threat. (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/04/16/napolitano-apologizes-offending-veterans-dhs-eyes-rightwing-extremism/) To the contrary, Nappy defended the assessment by saying (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123992665198727459.html) "This is an assessment of things just to be wary of..."
So the TSA was wary of a returning veteran. Even one who gave his legs. Consistent with Nappy, their great uber-leader, of course.
That speaks volumes about DHS and TSA.

Ah, one of my favorite TSA airports...BWI.

That doesn't sound like extra screening. It sounds like the basic for a person in a wheel chair.

Apparently they're only a threat if they refuse to take a job with DHS/TSA, given the numbers of TSA employees who love to tell us how they've got ex-military personnel, ex-police, ex-judges, et cetera working at their checkpoints.
Maybe it's just the veterans who're too morally upright to consider TSA "employment" that are threats.

Saw this on Laura's tweet. The TSA follies get a lot of airplay on conservative talk radio. Interesting how the so-called liberal types get all worked up screaming about civil rights violations when mass murderers like KSM get waterboarded, but they never seem too concerned about TSA abuses which affect millions of innocent US citizens.

That's a joke, right? There is bipartisan disgust around here.

Nope. I am disgusted with both parties as well but I find the liberal types to be hypocrites when it comes to protecting individual rights. The Institute for Justice has long since passed the ACLU when it comes to waging the good fight in the courts.

Really? When has the Institute for Justice challenged the TSA in court?

+1.
Me, you, Henry Kissinger, disabled war vets, all get the same handscreening/patdown.

+2 Yup. That's the way it is. If you can't walk through the metal detector, you are going to get the patdown. I've been through it so many times, I barely notice it anymore. Unfortunately, my mother was with me a few weeks ago (she got a gate pass, to walk me to the gate and spend a few minutes with me). She had never actually been with me during one of these, and she was sort of embarrassed for me, and, I think, a little peeved.

I was traveling with a work colleague last week, and wasn't really paying too much attention to him as we went through screening, but afterward he said to me, very tentatively, "Was that ... normal?"
I assured him it was. He was pretty surprised/shocked.

It's been normal for years now. It's one of the reasons we have to arrive at the airport earlier than others -- getting the TSA agent (of the proper gender) to come over and give us the patdown can be time-consuming. When, oh when, will George Clooney join the TSA??? ;)

It's been abnormal for years. Unreasonable to put people through that just to get on an aircraft when they pose no real threat.

They have better things to do than tilt at windmills - like keeping the government from stealing private property (see below). Nobody is going to beat the TSA in Court under current SCOTUS precedents. But that's another discussion for another thread.

Actually the TSA is the subject of this thread.

I have a lot of scar tissue in one leg due to a bad injury. There is no metal in that leg. I get the extra special screening nearly every time I fly as the brilliant machines signal they have found something.
I can't imagine what is seen on the Wounded Warriors!
