Probably 2 weeks ago, I checked my Asia Miles account and was on my way to Gold (If I remember correctly, I was only around 20K miles short). I just logged on again and realised I'm back at silver and have to accumulate miles for another renewal? I think they just reset my record because it is a new year but I'm wondering how many times do I have to renew silver before reaching gold? Anyone could shed some light on this? REally appreciate it!
On this note, I'd like to share my less than ideal flying experience with CX very recently. On 25 April, I flew to Johannesburg (where I live currently now) from Hong Kong and due to a thunderstorm that evening, our flight was delayed for close to 3 hours and everyone was not notified till we got on the flight while a lot of other airlines informed their passengers at the gates so they didnt have to be stuck on the tarmac. When the flight finally took off, the inflight entertainment system in the zone where I sat in was not working. Tried to check with the inflight crew more than once but no one ever bothered to come back to me and explained what was going on.When an angry passenger behind me complained officially, I finally got to know the system in my zone was down after the takeoff for some reason, which meant we had no TV to watch, no music to listen to, no reading light, no buzzer for service through the whole 13-hour journey. Still, no one bothered to come and announce this and apologise.
Towards the end of the journey, someone that I thought should be the customer service manager came with US$50 vouchers and handed them to the affected passengers. She seemed not sure who were affected and actually had the guts to ask me 'your TV didn't work huh?' as if it didnt matter at all. I filed a complaint to both Asia Miles and the Club but I haven't heard from them since. Seriously, I paid over HK$13K for a budget airline service and attitude? I told them instead of spending money on those 'People who make the airline' marketing campaign and asking passengers like me to do a questionnaire often, they should pay attention to the fundamental of customer service industry - the service and their attitude. I paid not to be patronised. Sadly, I have received no reply from them..........so I don't really want to waste my time going to them again for my membership status at this point...

Hi Cardinc2004,
Welcome to Flyertalk. Most of what you are asking can be found in the FAQ, items 10.3 and 10.4 here:
With Cathay, your status miles disappear after your earn a new tier, or after a year from the last time you earned a new tier. That's probably what happened to you. So you earn Silver at 30,000 status miles, then it goes to zero and you have to earn another 60,000 status miles to get Gold. So that means you actually need 90,000 status miles to get Gold. If you don't make it by the end of your membership year, you start over again.
Status miles are separate from your Asia Miles account, which is where you save up miles for upgrades, award tickets, etc.
Regarding the IFE, you should give them a little longer to respond. Cathay has been "upgrading" their customer service data centers recently and as a result they are a bit backed up. You'll probably get a few thousand miles for your troubles, but who knows. It's definitely no fun flying without some sort of entertainment to keep you occupied.
Glad to hear you made it to your destination safely though. ;)

Since OP is SL now, OP just needs to have 60000 Club Miles (or 40 Club Sectors) within the current membership year to qualify for GO.

CX always says in this case the OP needs 30000 to maintain SL then another 30000 to achieve GO.

Just to clarify, if OP is currently SL and accumulates 60000 Club Miles before the end of membership year, the OP qualifies for GO. Whereas if OP is currently GR, the OP needs 30000mi to qualify SL first (with account reset), and then 60000mi within a year after the reset for GO.

Does your membership year end in April? If so, CX will reset your Club Miles and Club Sectors to 0 at the end of April. Then you have another year to get 30K miles to renew SL or 60K miles to get to GO.

Hi everyone, thanks for the information and clarfication. CX replied to my complaint but to be honest, it was just BS. Slightly disappointing.
