hello,

I am planning on renting an SUV for a week's worth of travel. We are 5 adults and have 3 big suitcases, 2 small cabin bags and 1 bag pack.
I am having a hard time deciding between Standard SUV(seats 5) and Standard Elite SUV(seats 7). I am leaning towards Elite because it will have more space (can throw down rear seats and use that space for storage).

Will the Standard be enough or should I take the Elite?
Does Standard Elite (Chevy Traverse or similar) have more interior room than Standard (Ford Edge or similar)?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Standard Elite: 2013 Ford Flex SEL AWD/Limited, 2012 Ford Explorer, 2012 Buick Enclave, 2012 GMC Acadia, 2012 Chevy Traverse

Standard SUV: 2012 Ford Edge SE-SEL-Limited, 2012 Dodge Journey, 2012 Nissan Murano, 2012 Chevy Equinox, 2012 GMC Terrain

With 5 adults, you'd definitely want to go with the Standard Elite. I doubt you'd be able to comfortably fit 5 adults in a standard SUV- the rear center passenger seats are better for small children...

Hello drzoid,

Thanks for the reply. I think Std elite shd be fine. I was loking at Entrprise too and they had a Std SUV (JEEP Cherokee) listed for a lower price. When i called them, they told me that std suv cud also be a ford explorer. The next size (full size suv) was sold out. Any thoughts on Entrprise std suv?

Thanks

I've never rented from Enterprise, but they're similar to National. However, both have a slightly different classification system than Avis.

SFAR/SRAR: Standard SUV with AWD/2WD, e.g. 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo-Limited, 2012 Ford Explorer XLT-Limited, 2012 Kia Sorento, 2012 GMC Terrain SLE1-SLT2, 2012 Chevy Equinox LS-LTZ

PGAR: Premium Crossover (SUV), e.g. 2013 Ford Flex SEL AWD, 2012 Chevy Traverse LTZ AWD, GMC Acadia/Buick Enclave

FGAR: Fullsize Crossover (SUV), e.g. 2012 Ford Edge SE-SEL-Limited (Sport trims seen in Canada), 2012 Dodge Journey SE-SXT-Crew, 2012 Nissan Murano, 2012 Mazda CX-9

I often rent a standard SUV from Avis and always get given something like a 2012 Ford Explorer, Kia Sorento or Grand Cherokee.

Yesterday I got given a Buick Enclave at LAX, but promptly returned it for an Explorer. There was either something wrong with it or otherwise it's just a terrible car to drive. Avis are very accommodating when I ask to swap too.

In my experience, the 'Elite' vehicles are usually premium badges with better equipment, but often not actually as spacious or practical. They're often not actually four wheel drive model either.
