Mid-Atlantic - PHL - Getting from Southwest terminal to intl arrivals waiting area

I am going to be flying into PHL on Southwest. I'm going to be meeting someone flying in from the UK, probably either US Airways or British Airways, not that I think it matters because AFAIK, all international arrivals are handled at the same terminal at PHL, then we're going to pick up a rental car.

I'll probably be arriving first, so I'll meet him at the waiting area outside the CBP area, but what's the best way to get over there? Is it an easy walk from Southwest's terminal or is there a shuttle/train I need to take? I've flown into PHL before, but always domestically so I'm not familiar with the international arrivals area. Thanks

International arrivals from Europe is in Terminal A. Southwest is in Terminal E. You can easily walk between all of the terminals after leaving (or before entering) security. Walking from Terminal E to Terminal A would be about 15 minutes.

If you do the walk, I suggest just staying in the secure side of the airport and head all the way to A and exit there to get to the waiting area. If you exit security at E then you will have to walk outside on the sidewalk, not bad if it is a nice day.

If you are not collecting baggage, you can walk through the secure side of the airport, and exit from Terminal A East or West. Follow signs to "International Arrivals Hall" which is in Terminal A-West... that is the only place any one that goes through customs should be exiting.

If you must collect baggage, it is likely better to exit out of E and proceed to the carousel. When I have to walk between terminals on land side, I prefer to do this via the SEPTA train platforms -- this avoids the traffic somewhat.
