I'm traveling to Paris with my girlfriend in early September, staying near the Palais Garnier. I have a few questions to ask so I can plan the trip accordingly:

1. Is it possible to get a guided tour in September for the Palais Garnier? I saw lots of stuff on the website about tours during the summer.

2. Is there an advantage to going to the Palais Garnier during the day, as opposed to going to a concert? [I noticed some very reasonable prices for events there during early September.]

3. My itinerary looks like the following (is this reasonable or is it too thin?):

Thursday (9/6) - Arrive from Amsterdam, check into hotel, sightsee; Eiffel Tower, Harry's New York Bar or Ritz Paris bar
Friday - Palace of Versailles (must-go), Palais Garnier performance
Saturday - Louvre (must-go, neither of us have been to it before)

I have the option to arrive on Wednesday, as well. If I was to arrive on Wednesday and have an extra day, what places should I consider going to? Since most of the stuff mentioned here is touristy, I wouldn't mind some less-touristy stuff as well. Thanks!

Depends on your interests, but consider the Musee d' Orsay. It has a restaurant which I recommend for a delightful lunch to help you get over your jet lag. http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/visit/opening-hours/opening-hours.html

Also consider the Pompidou Center. http://www.centrepompidou.fr/Pompidou/Accueil.nsf/Document/HomePage?OpenDocument&L=2

FWIW I've used this tour company myself for an upcoming trip to Paris and was happy with the booking process so would recommend them:

The Hemingway Bar at the Ritz is either closed or is closing I heard.

It closed its doors on 16th April.

The Musée Marmottan (http://www.marmottan.com/index2010_uk.asp) might be worth considering, it has a great Monet collection and is generally pretty quiet. It's away from the tourist area but easy to get to by metro.

If you only have several days, I'd pick one museum or two at the most to visit. Leave some time to walk around and explore different neighborhoods. Drop by the Notre Dame and Le Marais. Don't miss the Sacre Coeur with its views of the city and the Montmartre area. Take a stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens. If your girlfriend's a shopper save her time for that as well.
