Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - China Airlines or China Southern c-class?
I'm flying to Asia later this year and have narrowed down the flight options to either China Airlines or China Southern - both offer 1-stop connections on the route I need, something no other carrier offers. Planning to purchase a business class ticket - feedback on which has the superior business class?
Origin is LAX - either LAX-CAN-RGN or LAX-TPE-RGN.

CI business class is so old compared to CS. If the price is similar I highly reccomend not to fly on CI

What is CS?
CZ seems to have good customer service, although I've only flown their domestic flights, where C is indistinguishable from FC, although it can sometimes be about $10 cheaper one way.
If you're positioning to the RGN special fare flights, is it yet clear whether these tickets will be honored?

I was already planning a family visit to Myanmar and we hope to take advantage of those currency-driven fares. If not, we're booking backup tickets (refundable) on either CI or CZ. We'll end up going either way - thanks for the feedback, sounds like CZ is the better option. Bonus is that it's also cheaper!

If I remember correctly CZ uses the old 772 on LAX-CAN, and that's not a better option than CI. On top of that, CZ is not flying daily on this route, which can be a problem if you want to change the dates. Short haul to RGN are indifferent for both airlines.

That's a good point about not being daily - our schedules are fixed due to the tour we're joining with family, so both CI and CZ work for us in this case. Neither the CI nor the CZ RGN flights are daily, so we'd be limited there anyway. All things considered, CZ is about $500 p/p cheaper for J-class which is probably where we'll end up.

If the 380 is flying LAX-CAN by then, I'd vote for CZ. Otherwise, CI is worth the $500 more than CZ's 772 imo.

CI is using refurbished 747 which features new business class product. CI definitely has better in-flight service & better customer support. Skytrax customer review scoring provides a fairly good idea of what to expect from both airlines. CZ scores 4.4 and CI has 6.6.

Yes, if it's the 388 then go with CZ.

$500 o/w is no laughing matter for personal travel. Despite the inferior service, English speaking ability (if it is an issue for you) and ground handling I'd go with CZ. (CZ is not actually that bad, just that CI is better) If you have a multi China visa irrops in CAN isn't a huge concern. They're both ST so it's really a wash as far as miles go.
All things being equal I'd fly CI but $$$ talks too.
