Flying out of LAX 5/15 to Rome. Not sure what the configuration will be.
Questions:
1. What type headphones are used in Business.
2. What type of headphone Jack is used - if I want to use my own headphones.
3. Any power port options - if so what does the airline use?
4. T-2 at LAX (it's been a long time since I've been there) the Alitalia have any relationship with other airline lounge for access?
Anything else I should know.
Many thanks!

From what I hear, on business class ticket you should be able to access the AF lounge in T2 - although, also hear that lounge isn't that great.

beautiful and fantastic.
answering my own questions:
at lax you do get to use the AF lounge in T2. its ok, light and bright.
the seats - one of the best j seats ive been in. VOD very good, noise canceling head phones, with a 3 prong jack. power in the seat is plug in type (american uses car type power plug), phone service, massage in seat, very nice comforter and pillow.ù
food service was quite good, selection ok, basic but good J class.
Landing, J had their own bus to terminal.
Crew was ok, did a David Copperfield and vanished just after the meal service, returned 1 hour before landing with a light breakfast.
a beverage and small snack bar area was set up for self service, water, juice, tonic water, packaged food.
seating was interesting.
rows 1,3,5,9,11 in the center are definatly for people who know one another as they are right next to one another, toe to toe. The other center seats have a very wide gap, great for shoes, stuff, or you dog in a bag (we had one on board). the window seats are nice. Row 1A has 4 windows - but also has the toilet in front. 2A a seagull looked to have its revenge on the window- not something you would want to look at for 12 hours - I dont recall ever seeing a window so filthy.
I dont want to leave on that note because going non stop to Rome from LAX is a gift after all these years of connecting through ORD or JFK. Actually looking forward to the return flight.

Flight back to LAX was the old configuration. Boarding pass said Y+ not J. They are starting to let things go. The lights in the second cabin would not turn OFF - bright flight all the way back.
Another big difference is the removal of one of the Lavs on in J on the new configuration. Old - 3, New -2. Less seats - makes sense.
I did peak at Y+ on the new - looked quite nice - didn't see the recline of the seats however. I would consider flying this.
2 C/D are the widely separated center seats. great for storing "stuff' between travelers. When the seats are down, your right on the Aisle.

Just back from a business trip to Italia. Due to the low cost, my company booked me via AZ, so I had no airline choice. Generally, AZ has changed little since reorganizing after liquidation of the "old" Alitalia. My itinerary was LAX-FCO on May 16th.
Outbound aircraft:
B777-200ER
Registration number I-DISA
This is one of AZ reconfigured 777s. It boasts three seating classes (Magnifica, Classica Plus and Classica).
Here is a pic of Classica Plus
http://s14.postimage.org/qmnfyp4zl/Photo0312.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
image upload (http://postimage.org/)
I was seated in Y. The flight was completely filled. The Y configuration on the refurbished 777s is 3-4-3. I find this to be very uncomfortable. 777s have a cabin width of 19 feet, 3 inches...compared to the 747 which has a 20 foot cabin width. The loss of nine inches makes for extremely narrow aisles, lots of instances where cabin crew bumped into your arms.
On a positive note, the 777 reconfiguration means AZ actually invested in new seats for their Classica cabin. I was fortunate enough to have had an aisle seat in an exit row. Here's a pic of the new Classica seat:
Upon landing in Rome, the plane was parked in a remote section of the tarmac and we had to be bused to the terminal..a tedious process that I detest...and generally a practice I thought had been abandoned by most major airports. Here's a from the bus:
On the return FCO-LAX, the plane was one of AZ's older 777s, yet to be refurbished with dirty chairs, ripped carpets, stained portions of the restroom walls. I did prefer the seating of 3-3-3 on this aircraft. My favorite pic was this one, where the armrest (which houses the PVT remote control) had duct tape lining, to patch up a crack:
I do wish to address two concerns. Cabin crews on both segments were totally disinterested in their jobs. They were barely available and when not performing a meal service or water service, they were hiding out in the rear of the aircraft. General attitudes were sour and quite bitter.
Boarding process in FCO was a complete joke! It was complete chaos and pandemonium. No pre-boarding for Magnifica, Skypriority or Mille Miglia members.

Can anybody confirm??

They are different - they are like the AF economy plus seats - hardback. Much nicer so you don't have someone spilling over into your space.

LOL!! How do you suppose some LAX-FCO's were operated with updated aircraft if the previous FCO-LAX's weren't!? Obviously some FCO-LAX-FCO's are with updated aircraft and others are not. There could not possibly be a difference in the probability of getting a reconfigured plane on the outward or return flights. A bit of common sense people!
Anyway as you can read in the other thread all 777's are expected to be reconfigured by mid-July.

Another practical AZ question - will they be cool with me having a small carry-on suitcase and small backpack? I can't tell too well from their info online if they allow two carry-on items like this. Figured I'd ask here since a couple of you just made recent trips on the route I will be traveling on. Cheers!

You'll have no problems with the extra carry-on. My experience was one of complete boarding chaos, full of non-caring GA's and passengers pushing to board the aircraft. Both in LAX and FCO, this was the experience. It would seem the Italians don't pay mind to added baggage aboard the aircraft. The only people who might possibly object would be the AZ counter agents, at check-in.
Once aboard, passengers seemed to have this proprietary "every person for themself" attitude regarding luggage bins. As most things go in Italy, rules are not posted...and you'll not find any useful information on AZ's website. Even if you did....I scarcely believe anyone would enforce it.
I would be surprised if anyone attempted to stop you, however, you may come across an AZ employee out to enforce their own version of some made up policy.
Chaos rules at FCO!

Agree that is the general tendency. Official rules are to carry one bag 25×40×55cm, and in addition to that a small bag and/or item ("briefcase and/or laptop and/or umbrella" etc.). Having two or more full-size carry-ons (25×40×55cm or bigger) or a huge hold-type suitcase (around 35×50×70 or more) could on some flights cause you problems, short of that, you're ok. I can definitely say AZ are not out to make money on this sort of thing.
Max 8KG rule is never enforced.

There was a person at the Bag Sizer near the 400 range of check in counters - pulling people over - just walk past when they are distracted if there will be any issue over fit.

I nearly always agree with our friend bungler but note the 8 KG rule in FCO is sometimes stricktly enforced with the scales. Last time (10 days ago) I went through FCO there was no way of passing with more than 8 KG. The "dragons" weighed everything
I agree that this is a rarity but it does happen

Agreed
But EUROPE -> LAX you don't have many great Y offerings
Your best bet is probably VS in Y followed by LH / SR / BA
But were I going from FCO -> LAX I'd take the direct flight any day of the week.. For me its different as I live near Genoa / Milan so I have to "backtrack" to FCO making my jouney longer
Timings of the flights are, however, very good
My AZ LAX flight (last year) was also early in so...^
