Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Priceline car rental problem

Hi

I was planning on renting a car through Priceline's regular rental website (ie not the bid one), but am having problems and am beginning to think they are almost a scam outfit. I have never used Priceline before.

Their site offers me a quote with which I am happy (44 days from Hertz from Heathrow from late this month for a mid-size or standard car if it makes a difference). Every time I try and complete the booking of either category of car it says:

"Rental Car Not Available While Booking
Rental Car availability changes every second and unfortunately, we were unable to complete the booking for the vehicle you selected. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you were required to provide a credit card, it has not been charged. Please choose one of the alternative options available below."

Whilst I find it surprising that that might be the case for both categories of car, if I close down Priceline and open it up again, magically the cars seem to be available again, unless I try and book, when they magically are unavailable again.

Does anyone have any suggestions/thoughts/solutions/alternatives?

What "scam outfit"? They obviously have a computer glitch. It didn't cost you any money.

Many of the online agencies do not check real time availability until you go to book the car. It's possible the rate they are showing you is no longer available, it happens with all the agencies from time to time.

Not sure why it's a scam, other than they get you to keep trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. They have not cost you any money.

Just book it someplace else where they know the availability up front, like Hertz.

I also think a 44 day rental may be what's causing the glitch. I know here in the US anything over 30 days is counted differently.
