I am taking Delta from LGA to ORD and then 2h:19m later Air Canada/UA to home. Is there any insurance that would cover Delta not being on time and me needing to buy a new ticket?

However you need to know what they consider trip interruption, on many policies it's a connection that meets legal connection times at the airport or at least two or three hours, whichever is greater. So if you got one that said a connection time of two hours and 2:19 was a legal connection, you would be covered. CSA for example I believe is a two hour window. Go to insure my trip dot com, put in the dates, amts, and start clicking on policy details. When they come up click on the amount of trip interruption coverage for details, but always check the actual policy, not the insure my trip window, as it may not be up to date with any changes the insurance company made. Just be sure that you buy a policy that's effective as of 2 hour delays as often policies require 3 hour delays. once you pick the policy dont just call their 800 number, call the actual insuring company and speak to their claims department and ask specifically about that. E.g. some policies say "if you're trip is delayed by X hours, we will pay you the sum of $Y" with the implication being that this is to be used to by food, drink, toiletries, etc. for comfort, not necessarily for the cost of purchasing a new ticket. So check very carefully that what you are buying is cover for the cost of a new ticket for the second leg, not just compensation for the "interrruption". |
