Choice Privileges - Why no Acrobat pdf hotel directory?

I wanted to download a directory of Choice hotels and I can't. The website allowed me to order a printed directory which will arrive in a few weeks.

Given the high cost of printing, I would guess that it will cost at least $2 and perhaps substantially more for the company to send me this printed directory. As is my nature, I will study it, keep up with for a while and then lose it.

If I were allowed to download a directory I would put it in the travel folder of my Dropbox and would be able to access it from every computer I own; in fact, from any computer in the world. I could, and would, access it from my smart phone.

An Acrobat directory would be far more useful to the customer, so what's going on here?

What am I missing here? If your DropBox is an option, why not just access their website and have current data every time you look at it. Just like printed material, PDF files are obsolete as soon as they are created.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see on the website where I can easily find a listing of all of the hotels by state broken down by city. I know I can type in a particular city and it will tell me which hotels are near that city, but I don't want that. I want a listing of each and every hotel in the state, listing by city. It's actually quite difficult to do a hotel search on a phone, so before I start I'd like to know that the city I'm searching actually has a brand I would be willing to stay in. Oh, as for the PDF being obsolete, it can be replaced on a regular basis.

Also, my point is that I don't understand why Choice is willing to spend a substantial sum on money sending me a print directory when what I would rather have is a PDF directory that would cost them nothing. Maybe I'm a weirdo for wanting this directory, but I want it.

It does cost some time for formatting. Assuming the process isn't totally automated, which costs time to program.

And yes, you are a weirdo for wanting it. :)

I like having a PDF directory/flight schedule/etc on my computer because sometimes I'm just not connected and still want to look stuff up! They may not be the most recent version, but it can give me an idea if there are any hotels in that state or not.

The simple answer is Choice is not concerned about what you want. They make a directory to distribute to all their properties as it is. Printing a hundred or more extra does not cost that much and may even save them money. Postage is not outrageous being they can ship them 3rd class if using USPS or cheaply on their shipping contract.

Here's a link to the Carlson Hotel directory. I just find it very helpful. Carlson seems to be concerned with what their customers want, and even though that company has a much smaller footprint in the U.S. I suspect they will get a small amount of business by having a directory available that allows people to see where its hotels are. The ability to click on the links to each hotel and go to the hotel website is pretty neat.

This costs virtually nothing.

With so many hotel openings and closings in a chain like Choice, a printed directory seems silly. A monthly updated PDF would indeed be more useful.

They used to have a downloadable directory. It wasn't a PDF, but it was downloadable and usable offline.

You can browse hotels by country (and state/province for the US and Canada) here: http://www.choicehotels.com/en/travel-ideas/usa-vacations

You can click on a state and it will list a number of cities in that state, but it is in no way a comprehensive listing. Really the only thing to do is to put a city in the search bar and do an epicenter search. In most cases that's the most useful, I just like using the directory as well, and don't understand not making available as a pdf since doing so is free.

Another "improvement". It used to be a true directory.
