We are headed to San Fran in a couple months, and am considering the Omni. Any recent visits to this hotel?

Their customer service is great and I like the location - not too far off the beaten path but not int he middle of downtown. If you join Select guest you get free coffee room service in the AM.

Ah, I was thinking the Nikko..... The Omni location is good for business, but not where I would stay as a tourist.

The hotel is located on the corner of California and Montgomery streets in the Financial District. If that is not in the middle of Downtown, I do not what is.

I find the location of the Omni more preferable to the Union Square hotels. If you take BART, you still have a 3 or 4 block walk to the Omni or the Union Square hotels. Less pedestrian traffic and fewer homeless around.

The Omni's proximity to the California Cable Car line and the #1 Van Ness bus to get you easily to China Town, North Beach, and Fisherman's Wharf...the latter two requires transfer to #30 Stockton...is also a plus. The walk to China town is no big deal either, and if you walk that far, might as well walk to North Beach.

Besides Bob's Chop house in the Omni, it is close to Palios, Tadich Grill, Wayfare Tavern, Michael Mina's and Perbacco, all good restaurants.

But if you stay in one of the Union Square hotels you have easier access to shopping, the restaurants of that area, the Powell-Mason Cable Car that takes you right to Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown is right there at Bush & Grant, the Muni on Market St, BART and more.

The Financial District is rather quiet after business hours.

The Financial District is rather quiet after business hours.

That's probably why we like it there, but all the bars and restaurants are quite busy so it works for us. Also, we're not too enamored with the hotels in the Union Square area...not a big fan of the St. Francis or the Hilton, and the Omni has superior service. We are platinum level with their Select Guest program, and they bend over backwards for us...even more so when we hit Black level a year or so ago.

All that being said, we have the Hyatt Embarcadero booked for our trip starting tomorrow. Couldn't fight the occupancy for Bay to Breakers, so took the best deal I could find on LMT, so will settle for the Hyatt. Even better transportation options...cable car, F-line trolley, busses, and Muni subway right outside the door. The Ferry Building, with all the shops and restaurants also close by.

Just the old "different strokes" routine.

I secretly enjoy knowing that a thread on the Omni San Francisco doesn't belong in Omni. :)

As others have commented the Omni is an okay location, and easily accessible without any hills to climb. I agree the Hyatt Embarcadero is a great location, but I really like staying near the Hyatt at the Hotel Vitale. Great rooftop public areas, with sweeping views of the bay, and the Boulevard restaurant is right across the street.
