View Full Version : They ate my amenity!

A rather bizarre, and somwhat funny, thing happened yesterday at the Hyatt Rickey's in Palo Alto, CA.

I checked in Saturday evening and selected fruit and wine as my 2 amenities.

Then, I immediately went up to San Francisco with some friends, but opted to stay there most of the night due to the bad weather we are having.

When I returned to the hotel the next morning (well before checkout time), I found the fruit amenity was eaten and placed by the door for pickup, along with the empty wineglasses and corkscrew. The wine bottle was also gone.

I suspect that housekeeping came in and had some munchies on Sunday morning before I returned to the hotel.

Not that I care, since I was unable to sleep there, but it would have been nice to have some strawberries for breakfast. I would have just left with the wine to open at some other time.

It is really very bizarre.....don't really care - I think this story is worth more than the amenities....

Weird enough that the GM should be notified. Apparently nothing else was taken, but it's still theft.

There are times I don't eat the cookies on the 1st night, and housekeeping better keep their hands off my cookies or I'll be making some noise with mgmt.

Not sure where I'm going, but I'm getting there fast.

Juan,

I gotta ask, since I am in Mountain View as I write this note -- why would ANYONE who lived in Mountain View want to spend a night at Rickey's? Room run?

Dick

P.S. I expected to stay in the PH/SF on Sat nite myself, but Priceline has redone their districts and for my $80, I ended up in the Stanford Court -- also a very nice hotel!

Next time you might want to offer your "visitors" my amenity from last week at the Monterey Hyatt - cheese and crackers. The package of the cheese clearly indicated that it had expired 2.5 months earlier. One didn't need to read, however, given that the stench was so powerful. Front desk didn't seem particularly concerned when I brought the offending cheese to them in the morning (at least I had the decency to put it in a plastic bag!). It would have been a favor to return to the room to find that item consumed!

Richard, you are correct! Here's my latest welcome message from http://goldpassport.com:

Our records show you need only 1 more stay or 36 more nights by December 31, 2002, to continue enjoying the special recognition and exclusive benefits of Diamond membership through February 2004.

Then it makes eminently good sense why you would (a) check-in for a cheap weekend night at Rickey's and (b) not sleep at the hotel! One might almost say that Rickey's is IDEAL for that purpose.

My cheese amenity at the '60s-throwback Hyatt Orlando was a massive half-pound round of run-of-mill Wisconsin Muenster, tightly sealed in heavy plastic w/o a knife to open same. Also some rather fatty crackers. Definitely not as classy as other properties. After securing knife from management, I nibbled amid the heavy odor of cleaning fluid by a semi-detached HVAC housing....Oh well, I did get a two-room suite.

Impressive

So you were able to requalify for Diamond with only 15 nights for the year?

I wonder what the record is for this.
