Emirates Skywards - Fare classes for upgrades

I am planning to book a trip in October - I want to book 2 economy seats and upgrade to business, and can be flexible on dates.

How can I find out availability? Expert flyer? Anywhere else? And what class do I need to look for?

Also, I am Emirates Gold - and I read somewhere on here that there are additional seats avaliable for gold, it you call skywards - is this correct?

Any economy class ticket on EK can be upgraded to Business - the only difference being the number of miles required. Flex tickets (Booking classes W,R,E,Y) require fewer miles than Saver tickets but they are typically more expensive than Saver tickets too.

The issue with upgrades though is 'upgrade availability', which is usually a problem sometimes. Yes, you can use Expert Flyer - check for availability of booking class 'D'. If Expert FLyer shows availability, you should be able to upgrade either your Flex or Saver Economy class ticket to Business.

There seem to be 2 seats reserved for Gold but then getting to the 'gold' desk is a problem. Best is to call up Skywards DXB and ask for the 'Gold Desk' and tell them you are looking to upgrade your ticket. If you don't seem to be making headway, hang up and call again - that seems to work sometimes.

You can also check for Upgrade availability by logging on to your Skywards account and doing a dummy booking for Flight Reward Tickets. If Business Saver Reward tickets show as available, then Upgrade Rewards are also available as they too come from booking class D.
