Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Direct flights: Can't select seats segment by segment?

On a couple of flights next week to SE Alaska and I rediscovered an annoying quirk of the online system- one cannot select seats segment by segment- so when folks get off the plane in JNU or SIT, I can't select an empty seat for the next segment. I have the choice of 4 middles in the 'premium' area currently, where on a segment by segment basis, there are lots of window and aisle seats open. Any workarounds prior to checkin? (I had one flight where I was shuffled around in the F cabin- but was done at the airport)

The seat shuffling can only be orchestrated by an agent at the airport. The lingo you want to use when asking the agent for help is "split route" (as in "I am stuck in a middle seat from Seattle to Petersburg...can you please split route me so I can get better seats?"). It is a bit arcane and in my experience not everyone "down south" knows how to do it (because they have a relatively small percentage of multi-stop flights). But in places like PSG, all the agents know how to split route!

And 6C did just open up... so I have a seat for now (but holding out for better at the airport)

Will be nice if AS were to update its system to allow one to select seats for each segment. Imagine this also causes havoc for upgrades :eek:

A number of times that I have had difficulty with the seat selection on line, I have just called the MVP desk, and they have found great seats for me- So you might just make a phone call and see if they can fix your problem. Sometimes, although the web site shows that a seat is assigned- it is not really. Good luck.

It would be a complicated programming "fix." (I say "fix" because nothing is broken.)
