If I'm reading this right, I should always book mid size cars and will always get the FS or similar cars in the Executive lots?

In MOST cases that's true. Many locations put standards and full sizes on the Emerald Aisle, Executive Selection is generally full size with an occasional premium or SUV. The upgrade is never guaranteed.

If you need a full size, generally the best practice is to reserve the full size. Ask yourself if you could make do with a midsize if you arrive and that was all they had. Again, usually that wont happen, but it could. One of the benefits of Executive is that you will only pay the midsize price when you book a full size anyways.

thx, I just learned that when booking a full size, the rate would automatically be reduce to the mid size rate anyways so I went ahead and booked a FS. This would be interesting. It's going to be my first rental with National so we'll see.. Hertz was eh, so so

Not saying it is always true in practice but iirc national's website says that the ES aisle is stocked with only full size or higher cars. Again, locations vary, but I have seen greeters order that the runners move standards off the ES and onto the EA. Also, as an exec shouldn't full size be the same price as midsize?
