This is a long-term project, I will probably not do it for 2-3 years.
My wife flies to OTP (Bucharest) each summer to see her family. She has flown Star Alliance and Skyteam, and connected in FRA, AMS, CDG, and once in LHR on the way back. In all the times I have searched for tickets for her, both award and revenue, I've never seen connections in Italy.
This year we are going to Paris, she is making stopover there on the way back, flying a DL award.
I would like to plan for her to fly RDU-OTP, then returning, have a stopover in Italy (probably Rome). I am not at all familiar with these routes, since she's never flown them and I don't fly internationally.
Right now I have plenty of DL and Amex points, I have 90K USAir that I would have plenty of time to top off to 100K, and I could accumulate Chase points, or points on any airline I could get a credit card bonus for. I'd be looking for us to fly business class and would like to keep it to 100K points per ticket.
What are the best options for arranging this kind of trip?
