can anyone recommend a nice Hyatt at driving distance from NYC? Possibly on the ocean?

In driving distance, there is the resort in Chesapeake MD. It is not on the ocean but that is the only resort in the north east.

One that comes to mind is Newport, Rhode Island.

Hyatt Greenwich, Connecticut is about a 45 minute drive to NYC depending on the traffic. NYC is also accessible by the MetroRail and Greenwich has some very nice beaches. The hotel has a decent restaurant and lots of others fairly close by and has recently undergone a renovation. You may be able to PL it on a weekend.

Chesapeake is a great suggestion, but probably a 6 hour drive. It is 2 hours for me and I am there often

Jersey City on the river. Not quite an ocean but a great property to burn a suite cert.

Greenwich CT, not on a river, but love the pool and the club lounge.

Long Island is CLOSE to a beach, and the good things stop there.
