............................ "At Changi Airport, Emirates and Qatar alone operate 74 flights a week.

Low-cost carriers including Tiger Airways, part-owned by Singapore Air, have boosted their share of passengers to 26 per cent last year, from 5.6 percent in 2005, helped by the opening of a budget terminal."

............................""The world has changed for them," says CAPA's Harbison. "The days of being able to rely on the Singapore Girl to pull people in are gone."

If they gave 100% miles in discount Y then I would pick them instantly.
But, that's not going to happen entire soon.
(There's a reason why I credit to all the programs that I have.)
KF would also be better with a mileage system, like AA, but Solitaire PPS could be like CK.
Their yields on awards would be higher if they didn't embargo O on awards.
They are alienating prospective customers.

But they do give 100% miles in discount Y. Just not on some booking classes. The only *A airlines that give 100% in all discount Y are US and UA. Everyone else has some booking classes in Y that do not earn miles.

For other competitors:

EK give a minimum of 50% miles on all fares and have lower starting point for fares, and surcharge free redemptions. They are one of the main competitors.

CX are as bad or now worse than SQ as they don't offer any miles on their discounted fares (SQ at least now offer 10%). They are a competitor heading east of Singapore.

QF offer miles on all fares.

3K offer miles for a minimal fee but that also gives flexibility and a meal. But naturally TR offers nothing, and not sure really what AK offers.

Not sure about the other middle eastern carriers.

Why are you even comparing other airlines here? The topic is about SQ, not other airlines !
{Mod Hat off}
But while I'm at it , I would like to add that your references are wrong.. and that you should at least research what you're saying before saying it...

Some CX fares may not earn any miles on Asiamiles. But they do earn 50% on another airline's FFPs. QF earns all miles only on QF's own FFP. Not on others' FFP.

Because the thread about why SQ is failing to draw more fliers and one poster made a comment: " If they gave 100% miles in discount Y then I would pick them instantly. "

Any discussion about FF mileage affecting peoples willingness to fly them needs to be considered in context of what competitors offer, not just in terms of what SQ offer. If none of the competitors offered miles, then SQ not offering would have no effect on people choosing SQ or not. My point being SQ's competitors do not alway offer miles, but some offer limited mileage and some offer 100% mileage. It is not clear cut to say not offering 100% miles limits patronage. But conversely, it probably does mean that offering 100% miles - at least through KF - would improve peoples willingness to pay extra to fly SQ over some competitors.

On CX, I am pretty sure there are some commercial fares that earn no miles on any program (like SQ previously), conversely on QF all of their fares will earn 100% miles in at least one program (being QFF), so I stand by my original comparison.

I think we have to look at the bigger picture, as to why is SQ losing money and market share. All airlines have booking classes that either do not accumulate miles or maybe some miles only. I think SQ has become too expensive and that is why it has lost market share and which is evident in its low profits.

I know, but they are rarely published. (My examples were YVR-Asia on CX where the lowest published fare is VLCX6M which earns 100% in CX)
I have seen some communications ex-HKG for places that book into N, O classes (which is 0% across OW) i.e. HKG-DME at one point.

Not all of them. Every single fare class on AA, DL, even COdbaUA earn miles.

I would like to fly SQ but really, the Y fares that I look at almost always give 0% or at most 50% miles.

For the same price or less, I fly their competitors OZ/KE and get at least 70% or 100% miles and the miles last for 15/10 years.

If I fly SQ as it is now, I will never get any decent miles out of KrisFlyer as I only fly Y class.
So i give my money to other Asian airlines and now I am at least given a status, free lounge passes and able to have enough miles for free flights.

I mean look here, if you are a Krisflyer member you will earn 50% on N & Q and 10% for T &V, but the other classes all earn 100%.

100% - B, E, H, K, L, M, S, U, W, Y
50% - N, Q
10% - T, V

If PPS was worth it they would get all my business. I've only been flying SQ now a year, from what I am told PPS used to be worth it.

It's nothing like EXP on AA from which I came from.

SQ is expensive, most of the time 1-3K higher in J or F then other airlines.

I can buy up to star gold on USAIR and use the lounges.

AC used to be like that on anything except Canada domestic, then they changed it.

I believe it is not that they fail to draw more fliers but the competition is taking away many of their fliers, with Middle Eastern (ME) airlines being their stiffest competition.

While ME airlines have bad timing, as highlighted in another thread, the cost, and service variable is more important to companies based in Singapore. I know numerous SIN-based companies abandoning SQ because of this very reason.
