JAL Mileage Bank - JMB mileage accrual for direct flights

I'm thinking of flying CX531 (NGO-TPE-HKG) in the near future, and I wondered how JMB treats mileage accrual for direct flights (i.e. flights with a single flight number but making one or more stops). Will mileage and FOPs be calculated as if it was a non-stop flight (i.e. NGO-HKG) or are the NGO-TPE and TPE-HKG segments treated differently? If the latter, then I would get an extra 400 FOPs as well as the difference in flight mileage (18 miles...).

Also, is there a Oneworld standard for how direct flights are treated? In my experience, direct flights on *A carriers (especially UA) accrue mileage as if they were non-stop -- so the route A-B-C would only accrue miles as if the route was simply A-C.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B176 Safari/7534.48.3)

I think on CX standard these earns the same miles as if they are flew direct (HKG-TPE-KIX = HKG-KIX), also as there's one boarding pass you are consider on board once only hence I doubt if you will earn that 400 fop

You won't get 400 FOPs on non-JAL group flights. Unless you plan to ticket that from JL stock, you will just get the same amount of miles and FOPs from any CX flights (yes, not even the 1.5 factor)

They are just treated as if they were direct flights.

Why not fly on NH. They have direct NGO-HKG flight now.

Ah, okay -- that's different than NH, then. They offer the 400 PP bonus for certain fares on other *A airlines. When you say I won't get the 1.5x factor, are you referring to an elite bonus? I know that that only applies to JL-operated flights. However, I assume I would get, for example, 1.25x the FOPs for flying in J on CX.

And the reason I'm considering NGO-HKG is that it would be part of a NGO-HKG-US-HKG-NGO itinerary. CX has some very good prices from Japan to the US in J (http://www.cathaypacific.co.jp/fares/pexkami12_biz_en/nam.html) (good prices for Japan, anyway).

This answers my question, though -- no 400 bonus FOPs means no reason to take the direct flight as opposed to the non-stop. Thanks!

China flights get 1.5x FOP factors similar to NH's PP. That's something on top of the class of service factor.

You probably know this already but CX J is kind of terrible in catering. It's definitely not up to NH or JL's standard. And you are betraying NH :p

Gotcha -- I thought that might be what you meant.

Heh, I know -- but I'm thinking of going for JGC this year, and I have to go to the US in a few months. Since CX has by far the best prices...you can see why I'm leaning that way.

I'm still flying plenty with NH, so don't worry about me jumping ship entirely to JL ;)

You probably know already, you need to earn 25K FOPs on JL group flights. So those FOPs earned on CX flights will count towards the other half
