I just realized I am short of ~5500 points before I can redeem my Amtrak points for a bedroom ticket. Are there quick ways to get any Amtrak points?

I've already looked into transferring from programs like UltimateRewards, buying them, etc. I have am Amtrak credit card as well but can't wait for a month to spend and earn points.

It's almost mothers day-send mom some flowers, wife a gift basket. If you go big, you can make 5500 points pretty quick, FTD has 20 points per dollar right now.

No. I am short of 5264 points before I can redeem for a Zone 2 bedroom for travel in July. (40,000 points total)

Thanks.

Worst case scenario you could buy the points.

@jabillisruti - where (what station) are you based out of? that's going to help me to suggest your options.

Doing the California Zephyr from Chicago to Emeryville, California.

Isn't that what you're redeeming for? So I take that you are currently in Chicago?

Currently in Boston. Flying to Chicago to catch the train.
I can fly to Omaha, Nebraska, instead and catch the Zephyr there for 25,000 points (zone-1) instead of 40,000 from Chicago (zone-2) but flight tickets are $100 more, which makes Chicago a more reasonable option.

The cheapest, quickest way I found so far to get the ~5000 points are to transfer/share points from a friend for $10/1000 points.

I believe Omaha-Emery is still two zones; the zone boundary is at Denver.

Transferring/borrowing from a friend laden with AGR points is a reasonable and quick approach, but considering the price of bedrooms, just buying the points isn't a bad deal.

I wouldn't count on any of the Points for Shopping offers to come through in time.

Since train travel earns triple points this week, a couple of Acela BOS-STM/NYP turns will earn 6000 points. A single RT in Acela F, paid or upgraded, earns 4500 points. Something to consider if you're shooting for elite status this year.

Thanks everyone for the prompt, helpful advice!

I ended up paying $60 to transfer 6000 points from a friend since I needed them quick. The points were deposited within a few hours although Amtrak said it would take up to 72 hours. And I was able to redeem 40,000 points for a Superliner Bedroom on the Zephyr for two zones. (Chicago - San Francisco)

Cash value: $1800 for the bedroom
