American Express Membership Rewards - Best way to use MR to fly from CLE to HKG?

CLE is a United hub, so I guess I should have moved all of my points to CO last year, but alas, here I am with almost 50k in MR points wondering if they can be used to get me to HKG.

I looked at transfer to BA and I can book a partner flight for 35k + $172, which, with the 50% bonus will be enough for me to get 2 tickets, but I'm wondering if there's a better airline to transfer my points to.

I thought about all the domestics.

Delta wants 140k + $93 just to get there. Could not find any rewards to HKG from US or AA.

Finally, I looked at Pay with Miles, Air Canada flies for about 1300, so that would be 130k (still better than Delta) and I would get 26k back.

Of course, none of this beats United, with 35k (economy) there and 60k (business) back, but there's no way to transfer to United anymore.

Anyone tried this one before? Suggestions?

Have you considered redeeming through Air Canada, ANA or Singapore Airlines for travel on United?

I've been looking at DFW to HKG via Air Canada with MR points and it was 75k roundtrip in economy. I think it was double for business. What route/partner did you find that was 35k+$172 via BA? That actually seems not too bad for Avios.

Cathay Pacific. But prices above were for one way unless otherwise noted. Not so great after all. :(

I will have a closer look at Air Canada.

I knew it was one way and still thought it wasn't bad for Avios! Most of what I find is 40k +$350 or 60k +$175 each way, but I'm looking for pretty specific dates. One thing I did find (which I am sure is common knowledge to a lot around here, but was new to me) was that if I fly United to HKG, I can add in a flight to SYD with stopover either before or after HKG for the same number of miles. That was directly on United site, so not sure how to book it through Air Canada. I tried multi-city on Air Canada's site but did not have much luck. Maybe you have to call for that.

That sounds awesome. I want to know how to do that!

You are subject to the rules of the program through which you redeem, not the airline(a) which operates the flights. I suggest you search in the Aeroplan, ANA or Singapore Airlines forums to understand their rules for stopovers on Star Alliance award redemptions.

I like CX SFO/LAX > HKG, and I just pay for DFW > SFO/LAX. Im not sure what it is on Avios, but it was really cheap for F on that route, 150K miles previously

It's 35k +$172 each way for economy, which is what I would be flying since I'm taking a family of four. Not too bad either, will have to keep that in mind. Thanks.
