Hyatt Gold Passport - Help with Hyatt Kauai?
I don't even know if this is possible, but thought I'd try:
I have a week (June 19-June 26) already booked at the Kauai Marriott using MR points. I'd prefer to stay at the Kauai Hyatt (I have more than enough points, but am only Gold, as I've switched primary loyalty to Marriott several years back).
The Hyatt isn't available for several nights (2 or 3) during my desired stay (can't change my dates due to air (using UAL miles), requested time off work, etc, but i was wondering if someone with higher status at Hyatt could override the unavailability and hook me up?
I would of course be more than willing to sweeten the pot (ie., transfer equivalent of an extra night's stay at either Hyatt or Marriott, whichever you prefer) if this is possible.
Thanks!

As a member of FT since 2003, what do you think any other member could do for you about the dates that are unavailable? Diamonds have a guaranteed availability benefit but that's at rack rate.
Your best bet is to try to contact the property directly and ask them if they can open those dates for you. (and go in with the expectation that they can't.)
And don't offer to trade points, etc in this forum.

I can't even get a room for those dates with my diamond guaranteed availability. I guess they must classify as a period of extraordinary demand. Sorry, your best bet is to keep checking, or call them but the chances are slim.
Yes, I've been a member for many years, but hardly ever lurk/visit this forum any more.
In any event, I thought perhaps a higher/highest status might be able to possibly override any lack of availability--I now understand it's not possible.
If I made a faux pas ref my points offer, I apologize.
I'll stick with the Marriott and continue to check the Hyatt's availability daily as I have been.
Rgds,

Are the unavailable nights back to back (especially if they are all on one end of the stay)? Assuming you mean the Marriott (or Marriott Courtyard) not on Poipu; its a different part of the island and a very different but still good feel (and if the you mean the FS near the airport better water access). You could do the north side without some of the Lihue traffic, and then move down to Poipu to the Hyatt (which we have done a few times). The Hyatt has a big footprint that can swallow people better than most hotels, but still. Reconsider the booked-up days as an opportunity to avoid a packed hotel and see something different rather than a disappointment.
I was there last year during that week. It is VERY busy. Schools are out and camp hasn't yet started, so many families take their vacation that week.
I would book whatever nights I could get and keep calling/checking to see if the single nights open up. You can book them individually if you have to, and then call customer service to string them all together.
We love the GH Kauai and have been there numerous times. That said, I'd like to echo some of the cautions in recent posts. When the hotel is full, it can be difficult to find lounges around the pools, there can be long waits at restaurants and tennis courts, abuse of the adult pool area, etc. As jayer said, they do the best they can, but it's probably not the idyllic experience you're anticipating ...
Thanks, but my GF gets up every morning at 4:45am (for her first workout of the day) and can probably snag us a coupla' chaises on the days we're planning to be by the pool. I think we'll spend most days exploring the island and eating away from the property, but may lounge around the pool/beach one or two days during the week.
I typically prefer to avoid the high cost hotel restaurants and want to get out to Beach House, Plantation Gardens, Bubba's Burgers, plate lunch specials, etc., so it's all good.
Now if I could only find a way to score a room for the week.
:-)

If it is just the two of you at the GH Kauai, the adult pool at the top always seems to have seats, plus maybe you can pre-reserve one of the cabanas to make sure. They have some that are first-come, first-serve and another that is available for pre-reserve.
By the way, we really loved Josselin's Tapas Bar & Grill, and if you are a sushi lover, the Koloa Fish Market is incredible, but you take out and eat near the beach, on your lanai, wherever. The poke bento box and the wasabi poke are melt in your mouth delish!

If you are certain that you want to stay here, make the reservations for the available nights now and keep checking back or call the property, perhaps they'll open up availability for the remaining nights.
We're both *huge* sushi lovers and Koalo looks like just the sort of local dive we'd enjoy--I don't think we'd ever have discovered it without your suggestion--thanks!
Any other good dining tips (I'll check out Yelp & UrbanSpoon as we get closer to traveling, but always prefer FT suggestions)?
