I need help figuring out how to get 2 adults from Liberia Intl. Airport to Manuel Antonio. We would like to avoid renting a car. We are open to public buses, shuttles, etc.

It seems our best bet may be to take a bus from LIR to an intermediary stop (Jaco? Punatarenas? Tamarindo? Something else?), spend the night, and then the next day take a bus from there to Manuel Antonio.

Can anyone help me figure out how to do this? I've found buses from LIR to places and to/from San Jose to Manuel Antonio, but am having a hard time putting it all together from LIR to Manuel Antonio.

(We are assuming b/c our flight doesn't arrive until something like 1 pm we can't go straight from LIR to Manuel Antonio.

Is there any bus that goes from LIR to Manuel Antonio at any point/time?)

Thanks.

Pretty sure Grey Line will offer this (at least to Quepos - less than 10 km away, if not Manuel Antonio itself), and Interbus might also. The way they operate their bus routes, you'll almost certainly be on 3 or more different buses over the course of the trip, and it will take more than double the time that it would if you drove it. But, at least you'll avoid driving on bad roads in a country you are not familiar with, and renting a car in a country where that is fraught with issues.

I'd like to suggest a 1-way car rental; you could pick up in Liberia and drop off in Manual Antonio. The roads between those two points are pretty direct (part of it is new, hwy 34), non-mountainous, and you would save many many hours (and probably money). Hwy 1 to 27 to 34; fairly easy drive.

I agree with this seems like a great option.
