Trying to book for August this year for 13 days picking up in SAN and dropping off in LAX under a corporate id. Unfortunately the quote is coming up without unlimited miles (and some crazy per mile charge of $0.27!). The corporate rate is getting quoted though.

I've used this same id for one way rentals before (FLL-TPA) and have got unlimited miles at the corporate rate.

Is this particular to SAN or LAX or Southern Cal?

The KLM/Flying Blue id is double the price and the Entertainment book id (which usually gave very good rates) is 5 times the price!

Your corporate rate plan may have different provisions within the highly competitive FL market.

Also, that mileage rate is not crazy, but low. I've seen other corporate plans that charge a lot more.

Flying Blue being just DOUBLE the price of your standard corporate rate is a steal for a one way rental. The Entertainment rate is the rack rate with a discount (probably only 10% now) taken off.

I have also heard, and seen while doing some dummy quotes, that one-ways within Florida are often "free" in the sense that there are no extra fees above the typical rate.

Definitely stinks that Entertainment Book rate is no longer 20% off.

Different codes definitely have different terms. I've had better luck with the Continental Airlines discount code. Also, I would try not to rent that as a one-way for all 13-days if possible. I'd rent 12 days SAN-SAN + 1 day SAN-LAX, or 1 day SAN-LAX followed by 12 days LAX-LAX. That's going to be much cheaper usually. Also, I'll use a free day for the one-way portion if I can.

Are you booking a special class? I ran into this recently trying to rent a minivan for a 1000-mile weekend trip. I had the same problem with all of the popular codes....ended up getting a Yukon XLT instead.

No special class. Just compact or midsize or full.

Avis' rates have dropped recently, maybe because it's less than 3 months out.
