This article (http://derstandard.at/1334797070392/Zukunftsplaene-AUA-will-nach-Sanierungsschock-wachsen), quoted in the above article, is more clear: BOMs 763 will fly to EWR 5x weekly. Strangely enough, I though the BOM 763 has been /was moved to serve TLV? ORD would be very weird, but I suppose a safe bet as the A++ would sell seats and assure revenue. Between the lines I read they would axe NRT to get the 777 for that service. Although AFAIR the ORD-VIE service was a 763 when I took it in 2007.

More lift to ORD is great.
The LX, LH, and UA flights are typically very full.
Particularly with the number of pharma companies near ORD which have large operations in Vienna this makes really a lot of sense.

The ORD-VIE flights I took on OS were packed with CEE pax... no clue why that route didn't work for OS.

Os needs to buy new aircrafts. They use last century 767 and 777. Need to upgrade urgently...

Probably interesting for award seats (as LAX is already served 4 times during summer, 2 FRA, 1 MUC, 1 ZRH). Drawback for me is no chance to burn vouchers (lack of F) or opups...

I am very happy to see them return to ORD. Their J food looks top notch.

Unless you are flying full fare J OP UPs are a thing of the past. An FTL with a J or C fare will now get the OP up prior to you as a HON with a D fare for example.

I know thats the rule/rumour, somehow interesting though that I got 4 op ups out of 8 LAX flights in 2012. Was always booked in D... Hard to believe there weren't any Sen/FTLs with a J/C fare

Wow! That is a really great track record.

Flew OS couple of times, longhaul it is fine except for the crappy C seat, so if they get new seats i'd be happy to use them again. Let's hope the expension plans work!

Can anyone tell when they plan on (re)starting ORD service?

The article mentions that the new routes will only start after the equipment has been upgraded.
