Well it's my first post here, that's a plus :P
But anyway, this June my school will be sending 10 students and I off to Uganda, to not only experience Africa, but to help build a school in a village in the east of the country. I was just wondering if anyone here had any tips/advice to offer, I am a bit nervous about the trip. Of course I am Uber-excited as well
Since it is Flyertalk, I of course have to say it will be my first time flying BA, and my first time in the new T5 at LHR. Flying BOS - LHR - EBB will be quite the long flight.
Anyway, Hope to become an active member here!

Welcome to FT Agre.
My advice would be to have as much fun as you can. It will be an emotional roller coaster, as the disparity between your home country and rural Africa will be huge. Your students may experience a huge cultural shock, and you will need to be strong for them.
If you group carries old clothes with them to wear for the visit, you can leave them behind. What you are doing is commendable, as you are building a school that can educate the future. What you may walk away with is a life long commitment to a project. Be prepared for more trips back:)
Training trainers is also something you could look at. Meet with the teachers a few times, and give them tips on how to teach (bear in mind their limited resources). You may find this will be etched in their minds for many years to come.
If you could write report and post it here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-reports-177/, it would be appreciated by many.
Good luck, and have fun.

I'll echo the above advice. Enjoy your trip and don't worry. I travel to Uganda often and never have a problem. People are friendly and happy to see us strange foreigners. ;)

Thanks for the tips guys, and just to clarify, I am one of the students :p
But really looking forward to the flight, almost as much as the trip (Guess that shows I am a serious airplane nerd). I've heard good things about British Airways, and I am excited to see T5 for the first time!

How was your trip? Did you post any trip report or experiences from your trip?
