Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - what am I supposed to do with a Letter of Indemnity??

I went out of my way to book with SQ instead of UA, paid with an Amex card, and now the already non-sensical website is popping up with a Letter of Indemnity form that I have to "submit to the nearest ticketing office before the day of departure".

What is this ridiculousness? Is it because I didn't realize the website was on "Singapore" location mode?

I'm in SFO. Can I at least just bring it to the airport on the day of departure while I'm there?

Thank you all for any advice!

There is a SQ office about 5 minutes from SFO. There is a side road off of 101 and a big Singapore Airlines sign. Not sure why you need the letter but I've gone there to book RTW trips and a positive experience for the most part.

Thank you!

I gave that office a call and they said there is no problem, just re-check at the ticket counter at the time of my flight.

So semi-major annoyance averted. But still, I think it is a bit silly that the website would have defaulted (without my seeing it) to this confusing result/paperwork. Along with all the other things wrong with the website...

On a flippant note, I wonder if the website can singlehandedly explain why SQ's passenger numbers are off 12%...

In my deep dark memory I recall a letter popping up when I had unaccompanied minor on my booking.

I recall an electronic letter of indemnity being available online with just a few clicks to settle everything. Maybe that has changed with the new site and/or was only available for SQ status holders?

OP nailed it. In his own words, he didn't realize that he had set the Website to Singapore as a location (perhaps by mistake).

LOI's are quite common in some parts of the world and are used when one individual is purchasing a ticket for another. It's an anti-fraud device.

But, doubtful they are losing business over it. OP, after all, didn't switch his travel to UA as a result !

Is the OP purchasing a ticket for someone else?

If you're buying the ticket for someone else other than yourself .. or if you're using someone else's cc for your travel, the cardholder must present card at check in. If not possible, then the Letter of Indemnity is required.

Just booked a ticket on sq.com, asked for LOI, because the credit card holder wasn't flying, by check-in they asked for the card and his ID, and everything was fine
