Etihad Airways Etihad Guest - Ticketed in J, how to get seat assignment?

I booked an award ticket today using my AA miles and will be flying EY from ORD-AUH-DEL in business class. The AA agent said she couldn't assign my seats. Nor did I find a way to assign seats on EY's web site.
Is there a way to do seat assignments other than waiting until the 24 hours prior when it can be done during web check in?
My entire itinerary for my award flight is DFW-STL-ORD-AUH-DEL, the first two flights are on AA. Can I only do my web check in with EY 24 hours prior to EY's first flight departure or would be 24 hours from the start of my trip (first flight)?

Very easy. Call AA back and ask your PNR (Record Locator) for EY. Then call EY at 1-888-8ETIHAD (Within USA) and provide the PNR to get seat assignments. If your are not in USA, look up for the EY phone number for your respective country at https://www.etihadairways.com/sites/Etihad/global/en/aboutetihad/OurOffices/Pages/Offices.aspx.

I also find that Etihad seems to keep my seat preference (as determined in sign up for their FFP) and when I book my tickets, automatically assigns me my preference. But I also call up and ask just to make sure ;)

Thanks for the phone number. Called Etihad first thing this morning and got the seats I wanted.

same situation as OP.. AA award on Etihad J.. called EY with the EY PNR.. but they said we dont let other program's elite book seats in advance.. any truth? or just a grumpy agent.. anyhow, will call again today .. but was wondering if there's a way to do this online..

Booked AA award in Etihad J as well last month. Had no trouble calling Etihad and getting a seat assignment. Did this about 4 days before departure. Try calling back - you might've got an uncooperative agent.
Edit: I was unable to choose a seat online (the website kept giving some kind of error), though weirdly, I had no trouble booking the chauffeur service online with the same PNR.
