Earthman May 5, 12, 1:55 pm Ah,be nice :) We stayed in the W,which wouldn't be to everyones liking. The R-C over the road is generic yet very nice.No idea on service. The rosewood is your other option. The four seasons is a golf hotel,it's nice but out in the middle of nowhere. TMOliver May 5, 12, 2:04 pm Hotel and restaurant choices (and the quality thereof) in Dallas and the Metroplex depend largely on the locations in which you need to be. With limited public transit and marginal taxi service, the prairie is a great big place, and even when driving up from Waco on business or pleasure, my choices are dictated by my destination(s). meFIRST May 5, 12, 2:26 pm Its Dallas. Most pretentious, but I will agree the service is good = Rosewood Mansion Turtle Creek Good value, modern new building, and less pretentious = the new Ritz Carlton (village) Personally, I cannot stand Dallas (in all forms) The Mansion though is in a good location to all the "right places" in Dallas. The joule is nice hotel too, but its downtown. Depends on where you need to be, its a big, wide city. AtoB May 5, 12, 4:05 pm Don't actually need to be anywhere as it's just a stopover. Near the shops and the buzz so the Four Seasons is out. Was thinking about the R-C (the rooms look rather quaint and small) but it's always good to hear people's opinions. What about the Crescent Hotel, Rosewood's other property? obscure2k May 6, 12, 12:16 pm As the OP is seeking more than hotel information, I am moving the thread to the FT Texas Forum. Please follow there. Thanks.. Obscure2k Moderator Luxury Hotels Herb687 May 8, 12, 12:39 am What about the Crescent Hotel, Rosewood's other property? All of these (Crescent, Mansion, R-C) are within 5 minutes drive of each other. The Crescent and Ritz are slightly better locationwise since you can actually walk to lots of bars, restaurants, and the free McKinney Ave. trolley from them. Or, if staying at the R-C, just go downstairs for an excellent dinner at Fearing's. Best meal I've had in Dallas in a while. thedoorchick May 9, 12, 7:09 am Good suggestions above, and I like the Adolphus as well (OK, so I stayed there on my wedding night and am sentimental about it...but it's still a very classy hotel). I think the Ritz would work well for your purposes. Location is convenient to some nightlife and Fearing's restaurant is supposed to be amazing (regretfully, I have yet to go there, but it is high on my list). I live in the suburbs so I don't get to nice Dallas restaurants as frequently as some. Too many good places closer to home. :D spankytoes May 9, 12, 2:51 pm Your question is way too broad as Dallas is way too spead out. If you want nice accomodations near the heart of the city, the Palomar is great. It's across the street from the Park and Ride, so you can get some adult beverages down on McKinney Avenue and train back. (Or cabs are $10.00 each way) Or, Lower Greenville is a short cab ride the other direction if the more youthful crowd is your scene. On McKinney, there are a lot of bars and restaurants. My favorite watering holes are The Loon and The MAT. (McKinney Ave. Tavern) For eats, Primos is a good Tex-Mex place to people watch, Manny's has the best brisket tacos ever and you can't go wrong with Grimaldi's or Fireside Pie's. But, if you must have steak, Fearings and Perry's are the spots. If you want something better, and don't mind driving a few more miles, Bob's Steak and Chop is excellent. AtoB May 15, 12, 4:15 pm Thanks for the info. Was pondering the Capital Grille and Nobu as well and I see that the Crescent is on their doorstep. MrMan May 16, 12, 2:28 pm Thanks for the info. If you want something better, and don't mind driving a few more miles, Bob's Steak and Chop is excellent. I wouldn't do Fearing's for steak. But I would go to Fearing's - best meal I've had in DFW in the past couple of years. For steak, Bob's Steak and Chop House would be my top recommendation. jsmeeker May 19, 12, 11:28 am Hard for me to comment on hotels in Dallas since I live there and don't typically stay in a hotel in Dallas. But you have been given good suggestions so far. I would probably stay at any of the places recommend in the uptown area. And would also add in Hotel ZaZa. For a steak joint? If you are staying in Uptown, I'll suggest Nick and Sam's. A lot of my friends like Capitol Grille, but that's a chain available in many cities. You might also like Al Bernait's. It's more than just steaks, too. MissJoeyDFW May 19, 12, 9:01 pm Hard for me to comment on hotels in Dallas since I live there and don't typically stay in a hotel in Dallas. A plus if you want to have more than a cocktail or two. jbdear May 24, 12, 10:04 pm I would agree with the recommendations of the Mansion, Crescent and R/C. Hotel ZaZa and The Magnolia are other options in the area, but less luxurious. The W is a bit removed from the action if there isn't a sporting event going on (it is located adjacent to the AA Center - home of the Stars and Mavericks). I wouldn't recommend staying downtown (Joule/Adolphus) - while downtown is better than it has been in the past -the Mansion and R/C are in a livelier part of town. I completely agree with the Fearing's recommendations. If you are looking for Steak - Perry's is good, but in my opinion, Nick and Sam's is better. For bars, the Loon is my favorite (although it is a complete dive), the MAT, Lemon Bar, Quarter Bar are also good for drinks and people watching. The Standard Pour is newer and seems to have an interesting crowd and excellent drinks. Enjoy your visit! rockdocs May 28, 12, 11:56 am Three Forks off the Tollway, I can not cook a bone-in Ribeye that good my mouth is watering Stay at the Mansion on Turtle Creek |
