On the desk were a stack of business card size flyers. FD says they just got them and doesn't know any details.
It says on the front BIG NIGHT giveaway. Were GIVING AWAY NIGHTS at select carlson rezidor hotels.
On back it says to learn more and register at
Radissonbignightgiveaway.com.
That's it. Could it be the same one as last fall? Doesn't mention of 50,000 pts as it did last fall. URL not found when trying to register.

They need to do something to "keep up with the Jonses". I really liked that one. But didn't you have to one of the first 20,000 to register to qualify for those 50K points? I'm not sure that you would put those out on display if that were the same case this time.

From what i recall i checked a week after that promo started and they were still giving 50,000 pts (not sure if they didn't enforce the 20,000 rule or the participation was low). Too bad that i stayed up that night to be one of the first to register!! :D

Ok. So FD staff told me it is a new promotion. Available world wide to all members.
Register on May 15. Have 1 stay at a Radisson or Blu between then and July 15, 2012. Receive 50,000 gold points.
Must be one of the 1st 100,000 members to register. Registering after the 1st 100k, members will receive 15,000 pts.
Looks to be very similar to last falls awesome promotion

Assuming even more people will take advantage of it this time around it is good that 100,000 people can now sign up. There are still around 30 states in the US that don't have a Radisson. The one I used here in Phoenix that was 2 miles away is no longer one. Will have to drive 20 min. for the other one. Good thing it is going to be 120 degrees here this summer...cheap rates!
I don't think it will prevent them from over publicizing it. I believe it will get more publicity this time around because people now know what a great value 50k Gold Points is...especially in high-value markets like Europe.

I really wondered if they enforced the 20,000 limit, last round, or just had it there in case things got out of hand. Putting it at "100,000" this round at least removes a couple of marketing issues -- whether they enforce or reach the limit.

Wow, I wasn't around for the last deal but now I will, so please explain. Are these 50.000 points only once or for each stay? Do you still get the regular points?
May 15th this starts. Which time zone are we talking about?
You had to be one of the 50,000 people to register. Last year, it took a very long time for all of the registrations to be taken. However, it was limited to the US last year.
If you do not have a Club Carlson account, and you are an e-rewards member! You can get 4,500 points for opening a new account: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/club-carlson/1342325-e-rewards-members-join-club-carlsonsm-today-receive-4-500-bonus-gold-points.html
If you do not have status with Club Carlson, the will status match you. This gives an additional 1,000 bonus points for booking online.
You do earn your regular points as well as the booking bonus on these stays. Unfortunately, cash+points wasn't eligible, I already have three nights booked in Ireland during the promo period.
Last year, I talked to several people about doing this and they looked at me like I was crazy. I think that I can talk one or two more people into doing this promotion this year.

Thanks for answering some of my questions.
Still wondering if CC Concierge members are already signed up (like last year) and I really hope that this time, CC members can also participate for stays in Europe.
Still haven't understood if this is for all eligable stays during the promotion period or only once? I am currently staying in Radisson hotels one or two times a week and intend to do so until mid of July, so this would be perfect.

No mentioning if this is worldwide or only US continent... Let's keep our hopes up :o
Well, looks like they have updated their Terms to indicate that this is valid worldwide!
Note that there are some contradictions regarding existing bookings. The texts highlighted in red in particular suggests that it is even possible to get the bonus by just enrolling at the property at the time of check in and registering for the promotion before check out (note the sequence here - you can't check in without an existing reservation, and you can register for the promotion after check-in and before check-out and still receive the bonus - hence, reservation predates promotion registration). But the blue text simply says existing reservations not valid... might require some clarification, or for those who want to be sure, simply cancel and rebook if you are on a flexible rate!
And also note the requirement of guest being present at BOTH checkin and checkout...potentially for those who want to simply check in and walk away, this would not work? but i highly doubt the hotel would care too much if you insist on paying them immediately upon check-in and request check out a second later :p
The Big Night Giveaway Promotion ("Promotion") is available only to Club Carlson members. To be eligible for the Promotion, members must register online for the Promotion at http://www.radissonbignightgiveaway.com ("Promotion Registration"), provide their Club Carlson member number at the time of reservation or check-in of the Qualifying Stay, and then complete one Qualifying Stay at any Radisson or Radisson Blu hotel worldwide ("Participating Hotels"). Guest must check in for the Qualifying Stay on or after May 15, 2012 and check out must be completed no later than July 15, 2012 ("Promotion Period"). A "Qualifying Stay" is defined as a stay of one or more consecutive nights in the same room at a Participating Hotel regardless of the number of check-ins or check-outs on a rate for which Gold Points are awarded in accordance with the Club Carlson Program Terms and Conditions.
Guest must be present at the Participating Hotel at both the time of check-in and check-out, enrolled in Club Carlson at or before the time of check-in, and registered in the Promotion no later than the time of check-out (to enroll in Club Carlson, visit www.clubcarlson.com). The first 100,000 guests who complete the Promotion Registration will receive 50,000 Bonus Gold Points after the completion of their Qualifying Stay. These Bonus Gold Points are in addition to the standard Gold Points awarded for a stay. Only one Club Carlson account per Qualifying Stay will be credited with the Bonus Gold Points.
Maximum of one Bonus Gold Point award will be credited to a member with a Qualifying Stay under the Promotion regardless of the number of Qualifying Stays completed by the member during the Promotion Period. Allow 6-8 weeks for the Bonus Gold Points to post to the member's account. The Promotion and Gold Points are subject to all Club Carlson Program Terms and Conditions. Rates for each night of a Qualifying Stay may vary. Promotion is not valid on existing reservations and is subject to availability...

The T&Cs seem to say no, although I can imagine that's only put there as some kind of standard language and all stays will count.
However, if you can re-do the reservation at the same rate (after May 15th) and then drop the old one without penalty, it can't hurt to do so.

Or the new promotion is company wide with all brands participating limited to 100,000 people world-wide. That's worse case scenario. Best case is you can triple dip for each guest...if so I'm aiming for 1 million points with 5 family members.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carlson make triple dipping available, as it creates extra revenue for each separate brand regardless!
and given the bold moves and pioneering promotions (think free points for redeeming points?!), I think this has the potential to create another wave of applause!
Also, the (hidden, for now) terms for the 50,000 Point Radisson promo doesn't mention anything about participation in promotions for other brands and only mentions the 100,000 limit for THE 'BIG NIGHT GIVEAWAY' promotion, rather than the limit for across all promotions in the portfolio.
oh, and how about the Park Plaza brand?! Quadruple dip? lol
ahhh, we can dream lol!

They need to be able to check in and pay so the kids are a no go. You and your wife are good. Find some other family in other states as well. Create accounts for them. Then have them "gift" their points to you in the end because Club Carlson lets you "gift" for free...lets hope this HUGE BENEFIT doesn't go away.

is the promotion limited to 50K per person or 100K per person? Can I double dip with multiple CC brands?
How are you working the relatives thing? Do you just sign them up, pay for a stay for them, have then stay, then transfer the points? Obviously they have to not care about the points, in my family that might be a problem. Trying to think of more ways to maximize the benefit here.

So for this to be worthwhile, I have to pay to stay in a really cheap hotel and then get the 50,000 points (or 45,000 for the lower class) and then try to use the points for an expensive room?
I tried looking at hotels in NYC to spend the bonus points. It seems that I checked a bunch of Saturday nights and rooms were never available online.
Is this a common experience? This would only be for a mattress run and I'm mostly only interested in staying in NYC.

Hey Guys,
Could you explain how one can get maximum value out of this deal?
I'm based in SIN and have never stayed in a Carlson hotel before. Most of my stays are with IHG globally, Choice hotels in Scandinavia, and sometimes Hilton hotels in Europe as well.
I registered for this promo previously but couldnt seem to extract value out of it so gave up on it. Firstly there's no Carlson hotel in SIN, and those around Asia seem pricey for a single night stay for 50K points.
Then comes redemption. Most of the good hotels seem to be upwards of 40K - 50K.
Are you guys using it for the lower cat hotels, or stringing on some bonuses that I'm not aware of.
Would really appreciate the help. I'm a big sucker for hotel promos, so would like to jump on this if I can get it to work well.
(Perhaps I can use it for a Cat 2/3 redemption in St Petersburg?)

Hey Guys,
Could you explain how one can get maximum value out of this deal?
Well, you get 50,000 points for signing up. That's 1 night at the top-of-the-top CC properties, like the ones in Paris. What the bloggers won't tell you is that there's generally pretty good access to the F+F rate, so this isn't really a good deal unless you are planning to redeem for a hotel that doesn't have availability frequently on that rate, or if you want to redeem for a bunch of low-tier properties.
I would:
1. Look at your local Radisson and see what the rate is.
2. Look at hotels in destinations you frequent and see how good they are
3. Look for availability on the F+F rate (hotel deals thread)
4. Do some accounting homework.
50,000 points is a good deal, but it is a huge waste of time if you will not use them properly. For me, it's points towards a Paris getaway, since I can always afford the low-tiered properties as a gold member with 2-1 weekends.

May 7, 12, 1:42 pm
The Friends and Family rate has horrible availability for Europe in summer. I agree the 2 for 1 EMEA is a great deal, I'm taking advantage of that in Berlin this June. But the fact still remains that you can stay at a Radisson for around $60 then redeem those 50,000 points in Paris, London, or Amsterdam for a $450 a night hotel that is considered a 5 star and are consistently listed in Tripadvisor top 10-15%. Not to mention the fact that 100,000 Gold Points equals 18,000 airline miles. Add that to any hotel transfer promotion and you're looking at 27,000 miles for around $120.

I think picking up >100k CC points over memorial day weekend by spending one night in a Country Inn ($85 after tax) and one night in a Radisson ($75 after tax) is a great deal. I wonder if these promos leaking out will kill interest in the CC daily getaways offer, which costs twice as much per point, and doesn't create "free" hotel rooms as a byproduct.

Not to mention the fact that 100,000 Gold Points equals 18,000 airline miles. Add that to any hotel transfer promotion and you're looking at 27,000 miles for around $120.

Can I just create say 3-4 accounts each between myself and my wife and book the cheapest available hotels possible and get 50K each?
Will there be an issue with getting the 50K each and redeeming?
Also, anyway to merge later on?

Access to the 2-for-1 makes Amsterdam and London not necessarily a good redemption. Paris never works on the 2-for-1. Still a decent deal, but I've stayed in the Radisson Blu Amsterdam for like 90E/night by booking in advance on the 2-for-1. Again, availability can be an issue but those reservations are fully refundable.

I could not find a clear answer...
will a booking on a cash+points rate qualify??
I see rates in my cities of interest
like $150 or $75 plus not that many points.
The promo T&C require that the rate
be one that earns Carlson points.
So the question is .... do the C+P rates earn ponts?
Probably not...

May 7, 12, 7:00 pm
1a. Keep an ear to the rail (watch emails) for the 35% or 30%-off ($) sales.

so I think that also the Club Carlson-Points+Cash is a qualifying rate for the 50k bonus, as ii is quoted by the t&c: Guests will be redeeming Gold Points and confirming method of payment for cash portion of the redemption at the time of booking.....Gold Points awarded for cash portion of rate.

The first time around, a lot of people booked phantom stays... Book online, check-in over the phone, and just earn the points. It looks like they are trying to combat that this time, with T&C saying "Guest must be present at the Participating Hotel at both the time of check-in and check-out". In the entire KC area, there is just one Comfort Inn, none of the other brands, and I have no travel plans during that time. Is anyone else going to try to see if a phantom booking will still work? Maybe it's just a matter of checking in AND out by phone? Anyone else have an ideas for earning the one night stay? I'm tempted to put a add on CL to see if someone will split the cost of a room, if I book, and they check in and out. But I'd be uncomfortable doing that with a stranger, and ending up being charged $50 worth of porn and room service.

I read through the terms and conditions twice, and it's not clear. I would advise you to contact Club Carlson directly and get a clear answer. I live in KC. I will be taking the family on two mini vacations. One to the Omaha Zoo (Incredible Zoo, one of the best in the country and they just opened the new aquarium) for the Country Inn stay and once to Branson for the Radisson stay. The way I'm interpreting that clause in the terms and conditions is that registering for the promotion after checking out from a reservation will not get you the points, even if you register by the deadline and the stay occurred during the promotion period.
Given the rest of the terms and conditions, this seems to be the most logical interpretation.

I am the comment directly beneath yours on the FB page, so I've seen it. IMO, the rep doesn't directly answer the question posed. They simply confirm that you can register for Radisson, Park Inn and Country Inn to earn more points. That could also be taken as "If you don't have a Radisson near you, you can get more points by booking one of the other brands".
It's not a clear indication that we will be able to triple dip. At least not clear enough for me to book non-refundable stays in anticipation. The T&C's posted don't spell this out. I'd be very surpised if they let us triple dip since the T&C's do say that you can only take advantage of this offer once per account. I'm definately hoping that they are thinking the way that you are.

Yes, it was sad to see this get shut down. I was able to do one on my account and the hotel was happy to get revenue on rooms that would otherwise have been empty. Corporate put an end to it before I could do one on my husband's account. The only reason we were doing phantom stays was because it was for USA Radissons only, now that it is open to international, we will each book a room and spend a night there. I can get value by redeeming the points in Europe or maybe Israel on a future trip.

Insiders or "friends of the band" may be able to do this quietly at some properties, but there was only one such property discussed on this board last round. But then there was the old FlyerTalk canard that we met the enemy, and it was us. The channel was shut down within days by management at some level -- probably corporate, because it sure had to be improving that property's bottom line.
In general, it's standard policy at all chains ("chains" because it's usually they who offer stay promotions) that you have to show up. The check out part varies, but in the vast majority of places, that's either not necessary, or a quick phone call to say you forgot to check out, and please send the statement, assures that you've done everything necessary. Some people go mess up the bed, but I've never done that, and it's a win-win. I digress, but these are points that many newbs ask about when there's a great stay promo like this.

Why not stay at a Carlson property and achieve the bonus in a moral fashion? One is already receiving an immense free benefit from the chain for simply staying in a property, so why not actually stay in the property and experience (IMO) the most underrated chain in the world?

What is "immoral" about phantom stays? You are still paying the property and getting the benefit. Sure you could have stayed there and maybe spent some money at the restaurant etc... but that will rarely happen at Park Inn or Country Inn and Suites or most Radissons.

Well, there are obviously things much more immoral than manipulating a simple hotel promotion, but this could potentially be something that IMO is a bit out of line. One could potentially go onto CC.com and just find the cheapest property in the world, contact them, and try to work out a stay to get their points. It defeats the main focus of the promotion, which is not only to increase revenue, but to increase their frequent travelers (meaning those who actually accrue points and know what they're talking about). It's also cheating! Seriously, it's not such a big deal to just stay at the properties and achieve two objectives (points+weekend getaway) in one shot. CC wants us to learn about their program, and not just mathematically discover that paying a random property $50 for nothing can score them a $400 night in Paris.
I'm not really that passionate about this one, but if it's an instance of $20-50 more to actually experience the property, I don't see why one wouldn't stay. Of course, if one isn't located within 5 hours of a CC property - I get the incentive to take a shortcut. I'm just not a handout kind of guy.....

Well said!
I liked Club Carlson before the November 50K promo, and I like it even more now. And by actually staying at a property I learn more about what CC has to offer. I've been contemplating these new promos for a few days now, and I've decided the best benefit for me is to actually stay at a Country Inn in a place I've been planning to visit. I probably would have stayed at another chain's hotel. Instead I will give CC a little business and gain 44K + points for future free stays. So, it becomes a true win/win, which is what hotel loyalty programs are supposed to be about. ^

"Promotion is not valid on existing reservations..." seems pretty clear to me. Kind of silly I think... I just need to cancel and rebook a Country Inn reservation I already have, not a big deal.
Otherwise, great promotion. With all the big chain's lackluster promos lately... I'm glad to see CC really stirring the pot and trying to up the ante here. I hope it leads to some responses from HHonors, Hyatt GP and especially SPG! Combined with the fury their current promo started because it's almost insulting... SPG really needs to step up to the plate.

Slickdeals cheapa**es don't matter in such deals where they need to spend real money for stays at Radisson in lieu for points. Put a thread there about a price mistake or cheating someone and they would be busy spending days thinking of how to rip off a genuine offer and then complaining that the merchant didn't honor and is bad, they have the right to cheat them, etc etc.
So for this deal, you're safe!

I have limited travel plans during the May 15 - July 15 timeframe, and two small kids, so everyone who has vacation days to burn, how about keep your being judgemental to yourself. In lieu of phantom stays, I'm hoping at the very least I can book a room at a city with a Radisson, and another stay at a Park Inn, and ask the hotel to a guest's name to the room... Close friend or family. They get a stay, I get the points... Anyone think that will work or not work? Someone who screens the T&C?

I'm trying to figure out how I can stack this with multiple accts since CC points can be transferred between accts for free. I don't want to bother my friends/family with my points obsession by having them make accounts/check-in.
Would it be possible to make an account under (insert random name) then make a reservation and call the hotel to add yourself on the reservation so you can check-in, while crediting the points to (insert random name's) account and then xfer it over to yours?

This all seems great but one thing--The first 100,000 to complete it get the points. So you don't know if you are one of the first until you check out and get your points.
I did the one last time and it worked perfect. Stayed for our aniversary. We are using the points for Myrtle beach this summer.
Worth it if I get 50,000--not if I only get 15,000

As far as I know everyone who signed up last time, even latecomers, received 50,000 points. At least I don't remember seeing a report of anyone getting only 15,000. If the 100,000 limit has been reached, the promo page will say so. So, you will know before you make a booking.
One thing we learned last time is that Club Carlson is rather efficient and prompt. Folks received their bonus points long before the terms and conditions said they would.

I second that - the limitation is on the front-end, meaning that if you are able to register, you are eligible for the promo. The registration itself is limited to the first 100K participants.

So for this deal, you're safe!
i check slickdeals multiple times a day and i spend real money on stays. you should rethink your viewpoints on certain "groups" of people. are you angry because you've missed out on many deals, previously?
also, how is your view towards slickdealers any different from what FTers do with mistake fares and fighting those til the death when issuers can their tickets???

I'm an hardcore SD'er myself. I'm talking about the 90% of the ppl there. I understand your feelings and my comment was may be not geared towards you. You're the 1%, ok 10% :).
I never lose out on deals because majority genuine ones are not SD'ers target. I have been on SD since 2005 and seen it go from top to bottom in terms of the quality of audience. I would also not ever want to target the current average SD'er user for my business. Typical SD'er audience is currently the target (non-targeted, inbound) users for Groupon and that is why groupon is heading towards - extinction.
About airfare mistakes - the playground is a bit different since the recipient businesses are huge corporations and they have measures to handle these issues. Also, airline industry is better laid out in terms of policies and terms unlike the small business/ mom-pops sellers/ etc on SD.
Again, it is against my ethics to jump on the bandwagon for purely financial benefits since karma is a ..... and I may be on receiving end one day.
Also, I think majority of FT is geared towards discussions and reviews which greatly help everyone and are not purely monetary in terms.

my bad. you made a generalization so it came across as an analogy of SDer:Bad. but yes some take it to extremes. anyway, too much OT.
so has it been confirmed, yet, that you must book a res AFTER registering for the promo for it to count? i'd like to do a stay/park/fly package but will be flying on 13th. i was going to call the manager at that radisson to inquire about the parking portion being on the front-end of the res. but, if it's required that i only get the 50k after registering and then making a res, then it could complicate the issue even more!

Would it be possible to make an account under (insert random name) then make a reservation and call the hotel to add yourself on the reservation so you can check-in, while crediting the points to (insert random name's) account and then xfer it over to yours?
That could be considered fraud and it's definitely cheating. Greed has shut down a number of great promotions because of people trying to game the system. Just register for all three separate hotel promotions and be grateful that you can earn 138,000 CC points. Don't spoil a good promo for the rest of us.

My theory is to not post anything on the thread and keep it off the first few pages as much as possible.

I guess we just don't know at this point. Last year, there were plenty of blogs pumping this offer, and I was shocked that the 50,000 available slots didn't fill up right away. I expected that for sure, many people would sign up "just in case" even if they had no intention of staying, so I was flabbergasted that the offer remained alive for weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it'll be similar this year!

I believe that last time it was limited to the US. Now it is open to the world (that's my understanding anyway). So even though they've doubled the number of participants, they've more than doubled the interested parties.

YES -- as noted above and posted in other threads, if you had read the rules, as far as I know, CC is the only chain that lets you earn points on Cash and Points rates and is the third to award stay/night credit - the others being Hilton (the first to do so), and SPG - as of last year. However, these other 2 do not let you earn points on the cash portion paid.

I am new to Carlson Club, but am going to try to take advantage of this offer this year because I happen to have some drives back and forth between the SF Bay Area and LA coming up, and Fresno has all three types of properties that we are speculating will have separate bonuses ^
In order to take further advantage of this offer, is this thread the proper place to hammer out where the cheapest CC properties are in the US, so that I can get busy finding friends/family in that area?
Also, related tangent - do any hotel rate search tools allow for a flex search that shows a whole month worth of dates? Hotels.com, Kayak, and the CC sites don't seem to do this and I'll get very tired of trying each day one at a time...
Edit: It seems travelocity has a low rate calendar, accessible by simply not entering any dates. News to me!

We will start a master discussion thread once the promos have been announced. In the meantime, you are welcome to post your finds in this thread, and you may be able to find some useful discussion in last year's thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/club-carlson/1275678-stay-one-night-radisson-earn-50-000-bonus-points-please-read-first-post.html).

thanks! this works, with the caveat that if you put in a month-long range there are many instances where the properties don't have availability for that long of a stay and will be grayed out. for that scenario i've been reducing the length of stay to a week or so to see the pricing. still way better than one night at a time!

Most programs assume you can only occupy a room at one hotel on one night, and will not allow stay credits at multiple locations.

Because some people don't actually want to stay in the hotels, but rather want to listen to the blogs and assume that their completion of the stay will result in a 'FREE' 3-day Parisian getaway.

Whoa, that's weird. This Facebook link totally CHANGED! Earlier Club Carlson responded to Nianbing Xiong's question on the club carlson's facebook page directly below her question of: "Just have a quick question: will the reservation made before may 15th but check in/out during the bignight give away promotion period, is that eligible for this promotion?"
Club Carlson said "@Nianbig Xiong..." (i'm paraphrasing from memory here), something like "while we don't want to reveal too much information before the release of the full terms and conditions, the short answer is...yes, reservations made before May 15th will be eligible for this promotion."
The fact that the affirmative response has been deleted makes me wonder if they decided that, no, in fact, stays booked before May 15th will NOT be eligible. At least that's what I'm now taking from it and not to rely on any info that has been extracted before the full t&cs are released.

It would be pure mattress run type stuff. If the dates were different I could have better chances to stitch it in w/normal stays.
I worry about point devaluation. Maybe a moot point since I am not staying up till 1 AM.

Yeah that's really got me concerned now. I was banking on a stay park and fly promo that starts before the promo officially begins but would end after the promo starts. Hmmmmm

Last time bookings before the promo start date counted. They also just had a 3-day sale. The alleged T&C say that you must register before you complete your stay. I'm not worried about stays booked before the registration starts counting.
I'm more concerned whether or not we can really triple dip. The answer of FB was ambiguous and I haven't seen any confirmation referencing a different source.

Does anyone have a sense of the value of Club Carlson points in general. I'm trying to figure out whether, on a pure matress run, it makes more sense to book with cash or cash and points.
(My assumption here is that the cash part of cash and points stays earns points. The t&c restrict free nights, but I don't think that would include cash and points. If anyone knows differently, please post -- I think it throws the calculation off.)
I can book a radisson for $79 ai or for $56 ai plus 5,000 points. The pretax difference in room rates is $20. Assuming I can get a status match, the points I would earn for the stay for paying the extra $20 is 600. So, the question is, what are 5600 points worth? If points are worth more than .41 cents per point, I should not do cash and points and should take the extra points.
Or, put another way, is it worth 5600 points to save $23? Or, would you buy 5600 club carlson points for $23?

If you don't have a near term use for the miles, I'd say cash in the hand is better than points in hand. On the other hand, should the kids enjoy a night away in a hotel with a pool, then you get to decide if that has some value to reduce the effective cost of the room.

Just going on memory from coupon connection, there seemed to be a fair number of people looking to get something for about 52,000 Club Carlson points last year after first big night promo. I'm sure that many of them did ok. But it won't surprise me to see some "H: 138k Club Carlson. W: Offers" posts in a few months.
I have a specific need for club carlson points right now, so this promo comes at a good time and I would spend $300 for 138k points. I don't think, though, I would do so on spec. Maybe. I might grab 50k or something, on the theory that it's always good to have some points in various programs. I had a water heater problem earlier this year and had some points I'd gotten in some promo or other and they were nice to have for hot showers for the family. But 138k is more than I'd need for those sorts of purposes, and $300 out of pocket is real money to me.

For me, a good use of CC points will yield a value of 1.0cpp. This can be achieved when redeeming 50k for a $500 property in Paris, or 9k for a $90 property in small town US. A great many properties will yield values in the .5-1.0cpp range, and you will occasionally see values in excess of 1.0cpp (in the case of high demand periods you can of course get lucky and yield much higher values). However, I would say in general .41cpp is poor value.
Of course there are other things to consider; namely, how much you paid for points (which may well be in the .2cpp range with the 50k promos), and whether using 5k points from your stash leaves you with an amount that's optimized for redemption. Say, for instance, someone has no interest in CC beyond playing the 50k promos, and plans to redeem for stays at 50k hotels or airline miles. If that person had one stay under the last promo, yielding 54k and will have one under this one, yielding 52k, then using 5k to save $20 is a no-brainer, as these points would only sit in the account unused. If, however, using 5k brought that person's account to 99k points total, it would be a very bad idea.

Real good stuff.
I think in the end, this issue is not a huge deal for me, at least with respect to how Club Carlson currently works. Since members can transfer to each other, it makes it a bit easier to avoid this problem if you have a spouse or other also collecting miles. Also, you can transfer to miles so long as you have 2k increments. At .4 cents per point, the cost per mile is over 3 cents per mile, so certainly not ideal. But given the bonuses on transfers of hotel points that pop up from time to time and the USAirways Grand Slam, I think I don't mind having weird amounts of Club Carlson.

I am leaning towards this approach (go for one on spec). I saw on a blog the park inn dates are potentially delayed a week (start/end dates), which actually might be of use to me, as it puts our anniversary in the period.

Can I book a hotel in DFW and my local friend there can check-in on his name (put him on reservation as secondary)? Reason I'm asking is that I've been in a situation at a JW Marriott in India where the reservation was on my name but I called front desk to let my girlfriend check-in early in the day since I was flying in late night. But since it was India, where policies can easily be tweaked - does it apply to other hotels in US?

This question has been asked dozens of times and answered yes dozens of times in this thread, the thread from the previous promo and in numerous blogs about this promo.
Any stay that earns points is eligible for this promo's bonus points.
Any stay that does not earn bonus points is not eligible for this promo's bonus points.
It's that simple.

I don't recall seeing the Facebook page response, but I am the source for some terms that are swirling around the blogs prior to the promotion launch tonight.
Here are terms I have confirmed with Club Carlson.
Club Carlson members can register for each brand promotion and earn all three bonuses.
Reservations made prior to the promotion launch for stays during the May-July promotion period are eligible for the bonus points.
Points + Cash stays are eligible for promotion bonuses.
So why do I have insider knowledge?
The past three years I have attended the Carlson Rezidor Global Summit and met with Heather Passe, VP of loyalty.
Even though I have been writing about hotel loyalty programs for five years now, the PR angle still confuses me. I was provided some additional information from the Club Carlson PR people with details like the Country Inn promotion is limited to 35,000 and Park Inn 20,000 registrants for the 44,000 points.
I was given the opportunity to ask questions and the replies I received are the points I quoted above from my Loyalty Traveler article Thursday.
In 14 hours we will know the published promotion details.

Verified with a CSA that we can in fact triple dip on this promo. That puts my mind at ease.
I already have 41,400 points in my account. I'm booking 5 nights with Cash + Points at all 3 brands. I transfered 10,000 points to my grandparents' accounts for a Radisson stay. For $313.00, and 25,000 points, I'll end up getting:
3 nights at the Radisson Blu Vanderbilt in London (44,000 per night)
3 nights at the Park Inn in Munich (38,000 per night)
3 nights at the Park Inn in Prague (15,000 per night)
I have $200.00 worth of Best Western travel cards for their BRG program that I will use for a night in Salzburg.
At $35.00 per night, and 9,000+ points to spare, that's a pretty salty deal.

It would be a great publicity for Radisson since people will search for all its hotels around the world, while since the publicity is so high this year - people will register like crazy and later chicken out causing less redemptions. So its a win-win for Radisson. And the registration website will go haywire when it opens :). This is my prediction for this giveaway.

Clearly no one knows 100% until the T&C are posted, but I was just talking to a CSR about a status match and asked a couple of questions, so here are her answers:
She said you can get the bonus for all three brands. As to stays that you booked before signing up for the promo, she isn't sure if they will count. She said they were just talking about this around the office and it wasn't clear yet to the employees. She said last time stayed booked before promo registration didn't count, I booked my stay after registration last time, so I can't speak to that. I'm sure others remember if they counted or not.
My stays are coming up this weekend, so I am booked right now, but with refundable rates. After I register for the promo I will check and see if rooms are still available at a similar rate and if so, I will cancel and rebook just to be on the safe side.

http://www.parkinnoneplusone.com/
I get a countdown saying 6 days 18 hours - it should be at about 2 hours! Is anyone else getting this timing?
I thought the same, if you look at the dates below the coutdown though the Park Inn promo starts next week on the 22nd

I looked in the T&C for Club Carlson and it doesn't mention anything specifically against people having multiple accounts. Did you ever try to transfer points between the accounts at all?
I'm certain that one individual having multiple accounts is not what Club Carlson has in mind, and that if they find this to be occurring that they will likely terminate those accounts. The T & C's offer enough ambiguity to allow them such an option, and I wouldn't fault them for doing so.
Two individuals sharing points is a whole other, and legitimate, matter.

Why would they call it the "points + cash" option if it only required points?

Are there any limitations on the type of room that you reserve? I just registered a park-stay-fly type promotion at a Radisson for tonight.
