Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus - Excess Bagagge fees?
Does anyone know what the excess bagagge fees are on Thai airways?
I've tried looking on their website and its very confusing and doesn't give much information on the actual cost.
I'll be travelling from London Heathrow to Bangkok with about 4 normal suitcase sized bags each weighing around 30Kg.
http://www.thaiairways.co.uk/flying-with-thai/luggage/
On the above link it says you only get 30Kg in Business which I will be in. Is that total? or each bag? It doesn't say how many bags? Then just says over this is the standard charge which is?????
http://www.thaiairways.com/plan-your-trip/before-you-fly/en/baggage_and_optional_fees.htm
On the above link it says excess bagage fees from the USA/Canada of $119. But no mention of other destinations.
Thanks

YOu will get 30kg total. It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 7 bags. Once you surpass that 30kg total you are supposed to be assessed the overage fees. I've heard people mention that a few kgs over has been let go, as you appear to be quite over (4x 30kg) this is unlikely to be the case.
My understanding is excess baggage fees are assessed as a percentage of the ticket cost for each kg.
The difference between this and the excess baggage fees for itins to/from the US/Canada is the latter is based upon a piece scenario whereas all other travel is based upon solely weight (or mass if you will).
Ouch. Be prepared. This is going to be expensive. For itineraries on weight system (which applies to yours), I believe TG still officially uses the formula of 1.5% of the full Y fare for the route, for each kg over the limit.
Is there a reason you must travel so heavy (relocation move, business equipment/samples, etc.)? If reason like this, hopefully you can expense this to somebody else. Or consider other options.

It's tools and equipment needed for work. There are no other carriers going the same route.
Why is it so expensive for Thai? With BA its £30 per extra piece of 23kg. With turkish its $17 a kg and I thought that was expensive.
My working out it will be about £40 a kg then. Why do they not explain this on the website?
Even when I go to book then when halfway through booking u click on the link for check the baggage allowance it goes to the US allowance.

I always thought it was a percentage of the full F fare. I once took a cat which together with the carrier weighed under 5kg and was told I would pay the excess baggage charge. Well it came out, as I recall, at nearly £200. 1.5% of £3000 x 5 is about £200. They did not let the cat sit in F though or offer it champagne.
You are, as jiejie says, going to pay dearly for this. As further confirmation: if one was to pay for excess baggage ex BKK to Europe with ROP miles it would require 60,000 miles for a mere 30kg which is the maximum allowed. The cost of ROP mileage purchase is US$400 per 10,000 miles. On this hyperthetical basis it should cost about US$80 of about £50 per kg each way. £4,500!
I suggest you contact Thai Air now and get a firm price confirmation.
I think you are correct in that BA would charge less -- £77 a bag. It may be worth going BA even if you waste the Thai ticket. BA cheaper! Times have changed.
You also have another problem. You will stick out like a sore thumb to Thai customs and will, at the very least, be paying a great deal of tea money to get your bags cleared. At worst they will be impounded for weeks.
I am sure others here have more knowledge on what "tools and equipment needed for work" you can take in to Thailand but remember "free trade" is only one way. Also if you don't have a Thai work permit for the job that requires those tools you are asking for a whole lot of grief.
I would immediately call TG to get an estimate.
Indeed, BA is very generous for premium pax. On BA you will have 3 bags of 32kg free, plus £77 for an extra bag of 23kg.
Airlines tend to be erratic on excess baggage charges. It could be anywhere up to £40 per kg. If you are 90 kg overweight, the surcharge (in and out) could be huge. Airfreight would be cheaper but even harder to clear Thai customs.
So first check with TG, assuming the agent can give you a written confirmation. Otherwise take BA. And be ready for some tea money.

I have emailed almost every email address on their UK website. I have emailed the Cargo section to ask for a quote for it to go in a container.
I will only be bring 2 bags back as 2 of the bags will contain equipment I am installing. I won't have any problems getting through customs it is all sorted and I have the correct VISA already.

You say you have emailed everyone, have you tried calling as advised?
After calling then ask for written if you like what you hear. Another option would be to physically go to Thai's office and ask and then get it in writing.
As everyone suggest, such a question is better handled by phone and you might be redirected to the proper LHR service.

In my experience TG is always very lax on over-weight bags.
I've recieved an email back saying that for LHR-BKK its £28 per Kg.
I've weighed all my bags and its less than I thought 91Kg all in minus the 30Kg allowance = 61Kg x £28= £1708
I'll ask for a proper quote once I get my e ticket back once it has been booked.

It would be cheaper to buy me an econ ticket BKK-LHR-BKK* in order to gain my checkin baggage allowance. ;)
*And a Q fare at that.
