Basically for $280 (10% discount if you use an AMEX card) you get 5,000 points deposited in your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account.
I noticed standard weekly rentals cost 2,500 points, so for $280 your'e getting 2 weeks worth of rentals, if I am seeing this correctly?
For 7,500 you get a weekly Prestige collection rental which seems like an awesome deal. I already have 500 points on my account- would getting 2,000 additional points be hard/expensive to do via non-rental method?
I'm just wondering if you more frequent Hertz customers see this as a good deal and value, and also sharing it here since I noticed there wasn't any post regarding this promotion.
Edited to add: Are standard tiers easy to obtain in places like Hawaii or Arizona? I noticed they have Standard and AnyDay rewards.

I don't know how big Hertz blackout periods are, but I've used Standard Rewards at OGG without any problems.
It's worth noting that there's only 45 of these offers available. They'll probably go fast.
If you buy the points are they only redeemable for the week trip with a standard vehicle or can you use the 5,000 points however you wish?

They can be used however you wish, HOWEVER, keep in mind that your credit card will NOT cover collision if you get into an accident, so check with your insurer if they will, or purchase LDW (that will usually not make the points worth it except in places like NYC where LDW is $9/day).

I bought a 7,500 (I think) two years ago from the site, it was well worth it, got a lot of miles out of those points. They have a 15,000 point option for $650 after AMEX discount which is really cheap, think how many rentals you can get out of that.

If you pay the taxes and fees with a credit card will the deductible still be covered?

sold out after 30 minutes of being on offer... and of course I wasn't one of the guys who "won" this deal.

wow that was a waste of 1/2hr +. nada for me.
Was a lot easier to get the first year and last year -- I purchased over 30K.
Well I don't think Daily Getaways is a good use of my time anymore. Way too many bloggers and Facebook killed it (everyone know about the deals now). Was fun while it lasted. :D

Per policy, no - the credit card has to be the only form of payment, and with a base rate of $0.00 (what the companies go by), you did not pay for the rental with it, just taxes and fees.
There might be ways around it (such as using a free week on an eight+ day rental) for Mastercard, who requires one full day paid if discounts are used, but I'd wager they do not consider loyalty points a discount.
Assume that your credit card will not cover any collision damage if you use points, and if they do pay out, it is only out of sheer luck.

To answer the question of whether the points can be redeemed however one wishes: There appears to be conflicting information.
"All cars are subject to availability. The car must be returned to the original location of rental. Minimum age for this offer is twenty-five (25) (exceptions apply)." Perhaps this is referring to the week of a standard car.
However, the site says 5,000 points will be deposited in your Gold account. The site didn't say anything about what they must be used for, only an example of what they can be used for. If you earned 5,000 points normally, Hertz's website will allow them to be used for a 7 day one-way:
"1 Free Weekly Rental - One Way
Available on Compact to Premium cars only. 5-day minimum rental required, maximum 7 days. 5000"
If the usual Hertz T&Cs take precedence, a cross country one-way that would cost more than the points would be ideal.
Incidentally, I think it used to be a fullsize max. Now it says premium for weekdays and multiple weekend days, fullsize max for single weekend days. I wonder if that was to more strongly compete with National, because many paying customers don't like the Grand Marquis, and/or because leisure paying customers don't want to pay for the amount of gas frequently associated with such cars.

I got in on the 15k package today. Currently 5*, any chance I could bump that to PC?

Points do not equate to status, so no.

Not always true.. my BMO Mastercard states:
"3. the full cost, , or portion of the rental cost, must be
either charged to the Account or paid through the
redemption of loyalty points earned under the
MasterCard reward program."

In reference to the above information,
No known method to acquire Hertz points beyond renting a car or Daily Getaways. I was quite pleased to acquire the 15,000 point offering and the 9,000 point offering. Hertz points have proven to be of great value.
The insurance issue is addressed via American Express Premium Car Rental Protection. American Express verified via phone and email attachment the coverage is provided for all car rentals. The card is on file with Hertz and the LDW is declined. Rentals are also covered via the comprehensive associated with the personal vehicle. Coverage varies by credit card and insurance company so call the credit card company and the insurance company.
As with other loyalty programs the value of the points is a moving target. One week the Ford Escape is available for a week @ 4000 points (a $500 rental) and the next week the Ford Escape is no longer available. The availability is based on location and not points. IAH offers the G37 but GSP does not offer the G37, as an example.

Yours might be slightly different, but the standard MasterRental agreement that I know of includes (emphasis mine):
"Initiate and pay for the entire rental agreement/contract (tax, gasoline, and airport fees are not considered rental charges) with your
MasterCard card. If a rental company promotion/discount of any kind is initially applied toward payment of the rental vehicle, at least one (1)
day of rental must be billed to your MasterCard card."
So if you rent a car for one week with points and pay $15 is taxes and fees with your MC, it won't be covered. If you rent for 8 days, paying for the final day, then you will possibly be covered, depending if they consider loyalty points to be a promotion or discount.

Amex has told me multiple times that their policies will not cover rentals that are procured using car rental vendor rewards points (AMEX Membership Rewards points are a different story). I also read the language and confirmed as much. Do you mind sharing the email attachment they sent you that states they will cover? Thanks!

The Daily Getaways promo is a once a year for the past three years. No indication the promo will / will not continue next year. Few options to acquire Hertz points beyond vehicle rental and the mentioned promo.
15,000 + 9,000 deposited into account! Yea!

I got some last year I think. I've only done one award rental though, when the weekly rate was higher than usual. I'm picking up a weekly in a couple weeks and getting a sub-$150 rate after discounts so not using the points still. Using awards for shorter rentals doesn't really add up to me.
It seems funny to leave these banked in a way, I guess, but I also can't bring myself to get less than a good value for the points when using them. ;)

Data point - I talked to another Rep and he had no idea of what this promo was. I had to explain to him again what it was and I asked him why no one knew about this promo, he said there are tens of thousands of promos going on everyday so he doesnt know it. All I wanted to know was why the wrong amount posted and he said I had to contact daily getaways. The email from Daily getaways says to contact Hertz if there are any problems... what the heck...

I just used some points for a week in St. Thomas. It was a good value there - since there is a lack of competition, rates are relatively high.
