Lots of availability beginning in September. M/R worthy EQM’s with the following routings:

JFK-SFO-TUS is 3,337 miles OW
JFK-IAD-SFO-TUS is 3,670 miles OW (with elite minimums)

I did this run multiple times earlier this year when it was available Q4 2011 for fares between $220 and $250 AI. An overnight is required to maximize EQM’s.

Thanks to my four trips to TUS I was able to retain status and go over to the Plat side. Thanks for that! Contemplating this again, although I'd really rather not stay in TUS again...maybe a separate flight to SFO from TUS? Hmmm...

I'm seeing as low as $282 on DL but that drops the CPM.

Bump. UA now at $282 r/t. They must have matched the DL fare mentioned above.

I know fares are high, but is a $300 transcon now "newsworthy"?

A lot of us grabbed BWI-TUS for about $150 on UA a couple months ago. That was incredible -- especially this year -- but my "old-fashioned" sensibilities tell me these fares are only noteworthy when they don't go above the low $200s. And I personally don't take the trips (unless I really need to go anyway) unless they're in the $100s.

Less than a month ago (on 4/10/12), I booked BWI-IAH-LAX-TUS-LAX-IAH-BWI on United for $245 R/T (AI). That's 6,228 miles, or 3.9 cents per PQM.

I posted this one as an FYI for my fellow NYC based UA flyers. BWI is a different geographic and pricing (LLC) market with WN as a major player.

When mileage running it is not the total dollars spent but the cost per EQM. Under 5 cents per EQM qualifies as a mileage run; and this one got down to 3.8 cents, which is OK but not great. Many times the cost per EQM can be improved with some positive input and participation from Flyertalk members discovering more creative routings.

And FWIW - this is a good, already M/R worthy fare to apply a $250 e-cert towards; bringing the out of pocket ticket cost down to TOD’s. ^

Applying an e-Cert doesn't change the actual cost of the MR. That cert could also be used for a better priced one if such came along. :-:

It does lower the amount 1 pays out of pocket. Also at least thru Aug there are really no ElCheapos out to the WC at all that will yield 6000+ EQMs, JFK-LAX can be had for apx $400 on the non-stops only thats 4950 or 8 cpewm

and with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii getting 6000k+ on a domestic run isnt in the cards and HI is well above $1000 this summer

So TUS isnt so bad when you look at it all. True if a person can do future planning for say late Fall they may find something better, But Id grab that TUS if it works

But claiming that the price is arbitrarily lower due to an e-cert is mostly fooling oneself.

Agreed that if it works for you no point is skipping it. But claiming that the price is arbitrarily lower due to an e-cert is mostly fooling oneself.

But it is lower at least in regards to what must spend out of pocket.

Also expiration of the eCert needs to be considered having 1 that expires within the next say 30-60 days doesnt leave much time to find something that will yield more Miles for less $$ out of pocket.

Then for some (like me) its difficult to simply book something for 11/12. And finding a base fare of $250 that will yield 6000+ eqms isnt an easy task in '12, Im having trouble finding anything in the $300s

Myself when booking a trip all that is important to me is maxing the EQMs and getting it for the least $$ out of pocket Unfortuantely for the past few months a 4.1 cpm is a very good fare for a Domestic Tkt before any cert is applied
