New trip report here (http://airwaysandtravels.com/2012/05/01/winter-adventures-in-the-middle-east-jordan-lebanon-and-the-uae/)!
No air travel covered, but lots of fun places and pictures! The Middle East is a fun place to visit, and in the post I tried to highlight the contrasts among countries. Here's a spoiler for you guys :)

I (and most other tourists) used Nakhal (http://www.nakhal.com/index.aspx?pageid=1471): great, knowledgeable guides and comfortable Mercedes-Benz buses!

Great report!
I'm headed to Jordan soon and was wondering what company you used to book your private car/tour from Amman to Petra with all the stops?

Hi David,
Jordan is a beautiful country! I used a private tour guide that I found on Tripadvisor through word of mouth - this is pretty standard practice in Jordan. If you are interested, PM me for the details!

I must agree with you. Jordan is a wonderful country, and Lebanon an interesting one.

Just spent a week in Muscat, Oman. What a change from busy, bustling and noisy South East Asian metropolis that I'm so used to, er read Kuala Lumpur,Bangkok,Singapore et al.Except for the heat eventhough it is not as humid as tropical climate.

Great trip report oneworld82!!! Next time you're in Beirut, let me know :) And the large stairwell is in an area called Gemmayze, closer to the downtown region (it's a lively residential street full of bars and restaurants). The stairwell connects Gemmayze to the neighborhood of Soursouk (just parallel to it). You can also find a few good restaurants and bars/pubs along that stairwell.
