Washington D.C. (including Baltimore) - IAD smong nation's worst, BWI among the best?View Full Version : IAD smong nation's worst, BWI among the best? SoCal May 3, 12, 4:20 am http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Dulles-Ranks-7th-Worst-in-Airport-Survey-149938635.html slawecki May 3, 12, 7:39 am this survey was done by idiots for idiots. if one looks at the "bad airports, iad, jfk, ewr, ohr,lga bos. all have one thing in common. they are among the 15 largest airports in usa. then the gooders, with but 2 exceptions, they are small airports. most have crummy services of one type or another. i see no mention of smog. reston chantilly area is pretty smog free. you just throw that in? bwi is owned by md. it is used as place for political plums, like the president of the senate's daughter. bus service to the parking lot is horrible. the rental car lot is a horror story. i really think there is abattle for best food there between hardies and mcdonalds. once you get there, you cannot go anywhere, except continental usa, and mainly estern usa at that. ba had a flight to lhr. is that still there. iceland was there, they still there? Often1 May 3, 12, 7:54 am The story is a joke. BWI caters to downscale demographic and flight experiences. If time is money, it's a trek from downtown DC, and there's basically no domestic club, other than a pitiful tiny place which now serves all domestic carriers in the same space UA used for what was then its RCC. My breakpoint on fares is that I will only fly out of BWI over IAD if there's a $500+ price difference. I don't particularly like IAD and am particularly distressed that after brining the Aerotrain online 25 years too late, it now stops at a terminal which won't be built for another 15 years, if ever, forcing one to walk back to the existing concourse. But, at least the place kind of functions and it is kind of convenient. choster May 3, 12, 12:04 pm Main thread at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travelbuzz/1341902-ua-hubs-claim-50-worst-airports-20-best-ones.html "Best" and "worst" lists are useless in general, because everyone will weight factors differently— for airports, it could be number of nonstops, schedule density, average fares, terminal amenities, ease of ground transportation, availability of elite security lines, quick baggage reclaim, etc. At least this is just for airports. It does amaze me that people make decisions about where to go to college or to get cancer treatment based on a number without ever considering the often arbitrary methodology behind it. violist May 3, 12, 2:28 pm BWI is a pit. The best part is the Southwest terminal, and that's not saying a whole lot. dcAA May 5, 12, 10:45 pm BWI is a pit. The best part is the Southwest terminal, and that's not saying a whole lot. I agree on this. The non-WN side is one of the most depressing places you can go. mhnadel May 8, 12, 4:33 am iceland was there, they still there? Iceland flies out of IAD as of last summer. They had stopped service from BWI a couple of years earlier. |
