Luxury Hotels - Any luxury hotels in Vienna?
We'll be visiting Vienna and Salzburg late June. I believe FS and RC will not be open then?
Are there any other luxury options in Vienna?
And Salzburg?
Thanks :)

Surely there are. The Hotel Imperial would be the one i'd like to stay at.

I have stayed at The Imperial (a bit stuffy) and The Sacher (less stuffy, less luxurious). I have heard that the new Sofitel is quite nice.
The most luxurious hotel in Vienna is Palais Coburg, an intimate and fine luxury hotel, owned by a wealthy hedgefund-manager: http://www.coburg.at/_en/
Fantastic location, fantastic food, not nearly as touristic as the Imperial, the Sacher and the other tourist traps.

Vienna is tough -- and desperately needs a real luxury hotel.
The new Sofitel, designed by Jean Nouvel, is positioning itself as a 5-star, but is really a 4-star. Views facing the Innere Stadt and the Dom are really wonderful, but the rooms themselves are more "minimalist chic" quirky than comfortable, the service standards non-existent, and the amenities underwhelming.
You might want to look at The Ring hotel, which is also trying to position itself as a modern, 5-star, and is perhaps more successful than the grande dames in the city.
Some very decent bed and breakfast "boutique" hotels are the Hollman Beletage (very centrally located) and the Hotel Altstadt, both of which are solid 4 star choices, but definitely not true luxury.
Some great tips here, including some that I hadn't found/seen myself - thanks everyone!

I like The Levante Parliament. Nice Design, Good Location, not so big...can`t say anything about the food though.

I totally agree, Sofitel, The Ring and also Le Meridien are the best or perhaps Ana Grand.
Forget the Imperial, it is so last century....
Head for new hotels, hip design and up to date beds and bathrooms.

I have to respectfully disagree with the previous poster. "Last century" is what Vienna is all about. Hip, trendy hotels belong in hip trendy cities which Vienna definitely is not. For this reason I still love the Imperial and Palais Coburg.

I've been visiting the Imperial since infancy. To me (and to most people) it is the epitome of Vienna.
For a brief history plus my review, please take a look here (http://www.frequentbusinesstraveler.com/2007/05/checking-in-hotel-imperial/).

Vienna is tough -- and desperately needs a real luxury hotel.
With Ritz-Carlton opening soon, Park Hyatt and Kempinski under construction your wishes are in the process of being fulfilled...
Meanwhile, I stay at the Sofitel, which has the most fascinating view of St. Stephens Cathedral and the old town - from the wonderful comfy beds.

I quite like the Bristol- some of the suite options are quite impressive, the location is excellent, and the food and beverage is very good. Like the Imperial it has a real Vienna feel to it. Walk across the street to the Opera and have a very nice stay indeed.

I recently stayed in a suite at the Hotel am Stephansplatz and ejoyed it a lot, although the hotel overall is not 5*. I took a peek inside the Imperial and thought it felt pretty dated, though I didn't get to see the rooms. I also had a drink at the Sofitel bar. The hotel itself seems like an upscale 4*, and the bar was full of a lot of trendy nonsense, mediocre cocktails, and precisely the kind of clientele that stuff appeals to. Sort of like a W.

The rooms of the Imperial are dated, however in the way of being a palace for royalty. I prefer the Bristol as it is a lot more laid back.
I like your description of the Sofitel :)
This is probably my next holiday destination. So the Imperial is "the" hotel to stay then? How's the room? Service and F&B?

I love the Imperial - but Ritz-Carlton just opened up a hotel in Vienna (http://www.frequentbusinesstraveler.com/2012/08/ritz-carlton-opens-first-hotel-in-austria/) so I am going to try that next.
