Air New Zealand Air Points - Velocity VS Air NZ FFP

Hi Guys. Am I reading this correctly.

Currently I'm on AirNZ silver status.
Average round NZ domestic trip from WLG-CHC is approx 24 Status points on cheapest fare
To get to Silver you need 450 Status Points

Velocity
Round NZ domestic trip from WLG-CHC is approx 20 Status points on the cheapest fare.
To get GOLD Velocity you need 500 Status Points

Wouldn't that mean I would have nearly gotten Gold Velocity when I could only be getting Silver on AirNZ?

Also is it true that Velocity Gold can be converted back to AirNZ Gold?

Wouldn't it then the appropriate course would be to get Velocity GOLD at the same amount of Status Points it takes to get AirNZ Silver then essentially get yourself AirNZ gold?

Please let me know if I am completely wrong in my thinking?

IIRC you will not earn any Velocity Status Points on the cheapest NZ fares while you will only earn NZ Status Points on the cheapest NZ fares.

The offer of complementary status match for Velocity was one off and definitely not reciprical by NZ.
