My dad flew zqn-tsv via AKl yesterday and is scheduled to fly back to AKl via BNE next thurs - all booked on one ticket via multi city tool. He wants to change the tsv-BNE to fly earlier on the Mon, but it is going to cost $320 to change it via QF and there is a flight on JQ for $130. So if he books the JQ flight and forfeits the QF one to BNE, is he still able to use the BNE-AKl leg? Apparently the flights are 'L' class.

Im only familiar with NZ rules and they are pretty generous with this sorta thing and am hoping QF are too....

Thanks!

As a general rule, if you do not show for one leg of an itinerary, you will not be then able to board later flights in the itinerary.

Even if u cancel thru the call centre?

I don't think the call centre can help in this circumstance, unless the ticket has full flexibility (L is not) - and even then a 'no show' on a sector voids all subsequent sectors AFAIK.

Actually, I think the call centre may be able to help. According to the Qantas Conditions of Carriage:

4.6 If You Are Late or Do Not Show Up for Your Flight.
Refer to the fare rules of the fare you have purchased.

If you notify us in advance, in accordance with any timeframes set out in your fare rules, that you will not show up for the flight, we will not cancel any subsequent flight reservations on your Ticket.

What was the outcome of this? My understanding is that either the ticket is repriced (which would be the $320 addcol mentioned, even if not flying QF on that leg) or the ticket is voided for subsequent legs. Was there a different outcome?
