They are suspending trading of shares. They aren't suspending the shares.

Just a normal part of life. Shares can be suspended from trading for many reasons, and pending corporate announcements is one of the more usual ones.

Wasn't the AirAisa/MAS tie up part of the reason MH refused the proposed joint venture with QF for that "red q" carrier?

This is very surprising as this tie up was key to the financial well being of both carriers. With each carrier withdrawing from a number of competing routes I wonder what happened?
AFAIK the Air Asia and Jetstar support link up remains, so is it an issue with MH not the Air Asia Group?

Malaysian is owned by the Malaysian government, there are no EU restrictions stopping them pump money in and the Malaysian government has money. So don't see MH disappearing anytime soon.

They have cut a lot of routes, which is a pity, but they do need to make the airline profitable.

Air Asia got the KUL-SYD rights out of it.

How? MH are still flying on the route, it will soon get the MH A380. LON- KUL saw Air Asia come and go, but MH is still there.
