I am new to mileage runs. I have always earned my status on business flights and never had the need. Now though I am finding good MR flights, from point a to point c, but unable to fidure out the best way to add the desired point b. Even though the point b is within the fares connection rules. Where do I go to specify the desired layovers.

Please dont say the ITA advanced routing language.... :)

That's exactly what you have to do!

I can't get it to do anything. Every time i specify anything in the advance routing field it gives me a qbx error... Even as simple as a layover that is available on ual site.

I know the possibility exists that I'm the issue. But I know I have the syntax correct

Can you give an example of what you're trying to do?

Sure.... RIght now UAL has a 260 fare from GSO to SFO. Fare rules permit up to 2 stops each direction. On ITA, I cant even get it to give me a GSO-IAH-SFO, however if i leave all syntax out, I can get the Connection witht he auto generated itins.

IF you have success please, share the syntax. I would really like a GSO-IAD-IAH-SFO, and back. Which, according to the fare rules.... is permitted.

You can't connect in both IAH and IAD.

Routing rules:

1. GSO-CHI/CLE/DEN/HOU/WAS-DEN/LAX/SFO-SFO
2. GSO-CHI/CLE/DEN/HOU/WAS-SFO

This means start in GSO, connect in 1 airport from the first group (CHI/CLE/DEN/HOU/WAS), connect in 1 airport from the second group (DEN/LAX/SFO), arrive in SFO.

The best routing is GSO-IAD-LAX-SFO.

Routing codes should look like this:

GSO :: IAD LAX
SFO :: LAX IAD

About 4 CPM after 500-mile minimums.

The multi-city search should give you those results, but you may need to call.

BryanIAH, thanks for being kind to cwyeager. Not too many people here are as gentlemanly as you to newbies.

If you don't want to use ITA and have to much time on your hands, you could call a TA and have them read the rules to you....

BryanIAH, you are a champion. You go to the effort to assist people and explain things in simple terms that newbies will understand.

Additionally, you have the "knack" of finding crazy fares (admittedly on CO/UA mostly, hook us AA folk up :D) and posting them for everyone.

If there was a nomination for FT member of the year I would certainly be voting for you, and I'm sure many others would also!

Keep it up.
