San Francisco - 75 minutes between flights in San Francisco

How difficult would be to make this connection in 65 minutes in SFO from Terminal 3 to the INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL? Can I stay airside during transfers?
First flight is domestic(from HNL), second flight is international (to Canada):

Depart: Honolulu (HNL), 31 Oct 2012 at 12:35 PM Terminal: MAIN TERMINAL
Arrive: San Francisco (SFO), 31 Oct 2012 at 8:21 PM Terminal: 3
Flight: UNITED 724

Depart: San Francisco (SFO), 31 Oct 2012 at 9:40 PM Terminal: INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL
Arrive: Toronto (YYZ), 1 Nov 2012 at 5:29 AM Terminal: 1
Flight: UNITED 8518, operated by AIR CANADA

Thanks

You should be able to make it, as there is an air-side transit to the international terminal accessible from all UA gates.

However, I have promised to never again chance it with a risky connection at SFO given how delay-prone the airport is, especially UA it seems. Of course, that goes for out-bound as well as in-bound flights, but with the fog it's often an adventure.

But I'm chicken that way. If you're delayed at all w/ ground fog on arrival in SFO it'd be a problem.

I think you'll be fine. Ground fog is primarily an issue for morning arrivals; unlikely you'll run into too much trouble arriving at 8pm, plus being a long haul flight, you're less likely to be delayed due to a ground stop.

UA 724?

Flight stats: http://www.flightstats.com/go/FlightRating/flightRatingByFlight.do?airline=UA&flightNumber=724&departureAirportCode=HNL&arrivalAirportCode=SFO

69% of the time the flight arrived on time.

Average delay 21 minutes.

I don't think it's just an AM issue. I rarely arrive at SFO in the AM and I've often had holds. What they are more likely to do is not let the plane leave its origin, which I've had even from LHR.

Here is the risk:

1. 69% of the time there is a delay which averages at 21 mins.
2. UA now boards at T-40

If you arrive at T+21 and want to board at T-40, your window for physically moving from your seat on the inbound to the gate reader for the outbound is down to 14 minutes. This includes getting your carry-on(s), shuffling off the plane and moving between terminals. That time-frame is largely dependent on your physical condition. Can you move at a good clip?

Drop dead for HNL is T-15, at which point your seat can be cancelled and given to a "standby" (read overbooked pax) without UA paying for denied boarding whether IDB or VDB.

So, the answer is that it's doable, but tight.

YYZ flights do not necesserily depart from the international terminal.

YYZ flights do not necesserily depart from the international terminal. The OP's SFO-YYZ is on Air Canada, which uses the A gates at the International Terminal:

Depart: San Francisco (SFO), 31 Oct 2012 at 9:40 PM Terminal: INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL
Arrive: Toronto (YYZ), 1 Nov 2012 at 5:29 AM Terminal: 1
Flight: UNITED 8518, operated by AIR CANADA

================================================== =======You should be able to make it, as there is an air-side transit to the international terminal accessible from all UA gates. There is an air-side transit from the UA (Terminal 3) gates to the International G Gates, but not to the International A gates.

The OP will have to exit Terminal 3 and clear security at the International Terminal to access the A gates (Air Canada).

FWIW, two of the four AC flights to YYZ yesterday left from G gates, including the redeye. The other two left from A gates.

but I have a kinda related question.

I have a UA flight from HNL to SFO (arrives 5:20am), and then have an AC flight to YVR leaving 1 hour 40 minutes later at 7am.

The flight was purchased all on UA, with the first flight on UA metal and the second leg is listed as a UA flight (operated by/on AC metal).

My question (beyond the same question the OP has about making the flight) is that with a check in bag, will I have to pick it up and then re-check it, or will it go straight through from the domestic flight to the "international"?

It will be checked all the way through. ie, you will NOT need to collect it in SFO.
