Africa - When/Where (If at all) will I find good deals to South Africa?

My wife, infant-daughter and myself will be travelling from Missouri to JHB in early July, then return after Christmas. I know that July is a busy time to get seats at good rates, but surely there must be deals at least a few times during the week?? I have been following KAYAK.COM a few times during the day, but the rates are not great.
Just wondering whether anyone knows where and when I can get good deals?

Oh and unrelated, once we fly how can I get over the fear of travelling with an infant... seriously am having nightmares (she will be 6months when we leave.)

It will be cold there in Johannesburg in July. Your little one will sleep most of the time and be OK. sometimes you can get good deals on the SAA web site. July is a high season time for South Africa. I am going in mid July and return on Aug.1

I too am looking for a better way to find cheaper airfare to South Africa, though East London or Cape Town would be the initial destination.

I've been before, but not in over a decade. Are there any sites better than others for looking? Or times/days? I have some time as I'm not planning on going until December.

Any advise would be welcome.
