Hi All, I recently changed companies, and lets say they are cheap when it comes to travel....

I am flying from Chicago Ohare to Milan, via Stockholm. My company had me book economy but I am interested into upgrading to economy extra, or even business if possible.

My company allows me to upgrade if it costs less than 300 dollars each way. Is this possible? Has anyone ever done this before?

By the way I 'm star alliance gold

Its usually points only or very, very expensive. That's what I was told on my recent IAD-CPH inquiries. Try OptionTown .. hit or miss there too

I guess since you are gold, and use to fly on Business class, you should have a nice amount of points you can burn.

Im sort of in the same situation, except I didn't change company, usually the customer order the tickets, some are cheaper than others. Anyway, I usually travel CPH - Asia. Costs me about 10.000 eurobonus points for one way for upgrade to Eco extra, and 30.000 for business. In my opinion, it's worth it for the upgrade to eco extra.

You can also buy points, but that's expensive in my opinion. http://www.sas.no/shared/EuroBonus/Opptjen-poeng/Kjop-poeng/

I am only a silver member at SAS, don't know if you can pay for an upgrade, the three last times I did it, was with points.

My guess is that the OP isn't EBG, but gold in another Star Alliance company...

To OP: Try OptionTown!

The price from eco til eco premium is "from" 125 euro between Scandinavia and EWR and ORD.

Are you able to do a paid upgrade to Economy Extra at the gate or at check-in?

Sometimes when leaving US, rarely if ever from Scandinavia. I think the price is 400 USD for Y to C, not sure about M to Y.

Optiontown.com, although it is not guaranteed. Just upgraded to Y+ for 154€ for EWR-CPH.

I would do it in this order.

1. Confirmed upgrade for points (if your primary FF-program allows it).
2. OptionTown for €150
3. Request cash up at check-in

Those are your options basically.

I think your only chance these days is Optiontown. I assume you don't collect Eurobonus points.

In the old days they would have price lists displayed at EWR check-in (never at IAD though) during the summer when eco was oversold constantly, but I think it's long gone.

If you stretch your budget slightly more than USD 300 you could get business class. Read the Optiontown thread.
