In honor of Earth Day this past Sunday, we wanted to let you know about how Hertz is contributing to the sustainability initiative with the expansion of energy efficient and clean vehicles.

DID YOU KNOW that Hertz has introduced compressed natural gas vehicles to its fleet in the US? Hertz will begin renting eight CNG Honda Civics and two CNG GMC Yukons at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City in early May. All vehicles will include NeverLost GPS units to assist renters in mapping local CNG refueling stations.

CNG is a cleaner-burning fuel, emitting up to 30 percent less carbon dioxide and up to 75 percent less carbon monoxide. The fuel also typically costs half the price of gasoline and is produced domestically.

Oklahoma City is serving as a pilot program for Hertz's CNG airport rentals program. In addition to having significant CNG fueling infrastructure across the state – approximately 70 existing or planned public stations – Oklahoma is also home to several of the top natural gas producers in the country, including Chesapeake Energy Corporation.

I'm surprised Hertz would want to even loosely associate itself with Chesapeake Energy right now, given what's been in the news (https://news.google.com/news/story?hl=en&gl=us&q=chesapeake+energy+corp&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ncl=dgqCcJcqEYAy0DMowE8hzB1Vu75HM&ei=FP6bT-20C4WZ6QHvtdmbDw&sa=X&oi=news_result&ct=more-results&resnum=3&ved=0CEoQqgIwAg).

Great - now where would one gas that up in an unfamiliar city? Do most airports area gas stations offer that?

I see this is in OKC, but before it rolls out in other markets, there better be infrastructure to support it.

I was looking at the Yukon for a road trip, and was curious what the range was for it? Would have to make sure it had adequate range to make it between stations.

FWIW (is this still true?) the CNG vehicles are only located at the OKC airport and must be returned to that location (since they have to be filled with CNG, and most locations are not equipped to do that). On Hertz.com that also seems to be the only place they are available.

I live two hours from OKC, and was looking at a Christmas road trip, and both are still listed there. The Yukon CNG was basically the same price as the regular Yukon.

Oh, that's not bad. I've been trying to find out what the range but I'm not getting anywhere with Google
