How often does LAN offer an upgrade for CASH at the airport?
(not rebooking into a full business fare but an upgrade to Business for ~$500 like BA does sometimes)

I am looking into the LAX-LIM or MIA-LIM routes.

Thanks.

I have never been offered an upgrade for cash ever on LAN

Operational upgrades 4 times from economy to premium business but not once have I been offered a cash upgrade.

Jan 1 this year I flew SCL LIM on the flight that goes on to LAX. The premium business cabin was empty and they really had difficult squeezing us in the back. They knew I was a "preferente" and they pulled some stops out to get better seats "up back" but they did not think about upgrading or selling an upgrade

A little less often than never based on a) Never offering a cash upgrade from economy b) Sometimes one is already in premium business and they offer you a cash downgrade?

LOL. Ok ;)

I was actually offered one for a LAX-LIM day flight, $500, IIRC. But this was yeeaaars ago, probably 2005. I was AA Gold back then. I declined.

Good to know that it really does not happen often nowadays!

The correct answer is: ALWAYS.

LAN will gladly re-issue your ticket in Business Class for the difference in price between what you paid and (probably) J bucket fare + a change penalty; as long as there is space available. :D

Brace yourself before they tell you how much it will be...

If you have to ask, you can't afford it! :D
