Due to aircraft maintenance, departure of JL007 has been changed as follows:
Flight No.: JL007, Boston (BOS) - Tokyo (NRT)
Original Scheduled Departure: 25APR12 (Wed), 13:10PM, Eastern Time
New Scheduled Departure: 26APR12 (Thu), 13:10PM, Eastern Time
April 25, 2012
Japan Airlines
This should be the 2nd roundtrip of this particular aircraft (JA822J) and it requires maintenance that cause a delay of 24 hours already :( Good that JAL stages the BOS launch to 4 weekly flights for exactly this reason ^
Anyone knows what's wrong with the aircraft?

Not a good start. Frankly I was surprised JAL actually started this flight with the 787. Seems to me they should not have sent the 787 out of Japan for the first 3-4 months if operation by the carrier. It's such a new aircraft. IIRC, ANA operating their first 787's only domestically until they were more comfortable with them and worked out the kinks.
JL007 on May 2 was delayed for about an hour due to aircraft maintenance. Seems like these 788 birds keep getting problems. Hopefully reliability will improve over time.
Another one! JAL 787 went tech again causing BOS-NRT delayed for at least 6 hours on Jun 8 http://www.jal.co.jp/en/info/inter/120606.html

Your link goes to a change in aircraft for another 787 route. Do you have another link for the BOS-NRT delay?
FlightAware data shows it went tech at NRT causing a delay to the NRT-BOS leg and subsequent BOS-NRT return.

Oops must have posted the wrong link. Yes it's JL008 that went tech and caused JL007 to delay 6 hours due to late arrival of aircraft

I was on the JL008 leg -- the broken bird was JA822J again. My Japanese is pretty spotty but at one point I heard them mention air conditioning?
(We had also been delayed 70 min. on JL007 on June 2nd due to maintenance in Narita and subsequent late arrival of that flight.)

Flew the BOS-NRT trip. Plane is very nice, but some glitchy stuff.
The in-flight map wasn't really working, and coupled with the JEN MAGIC whatever interface, which apparently was designed by my cat, Smidgen, it made for an annoying IFE experience. I thought that with a new plane, they wouldn't just retrofit the same crappy IFE system, but give this a clean sweep. Apparently not.
The electronic window shades take a looong time to activate, and they don't go fully dark.
The in-seat AC ports were lit up, but didn't work in many of the seats, even though the system was indicating A-OK.

Took the flight last month and had no issues. I agree the IFE is a bit finicky, but that could very easily be fixed and doesn't change the fact that it's an incredible new aircraft and the novelty of BOS-NRT nonstop. FWIW, I flew JA827J and JA826J

Any relation to this? Maybe they're pulling this plane to sub for the tech-y one?

Definitely, BOS-NRT non-stop is a godsend for my travel patterns. I just hope it lasts, there hadn't been a BOS-NRT nonstop ever, not even during the bubble or the Dice-K era, so why is now a good time to start?
My flight was probably 95% Japanese, we were the only gaijin in business class. That's fine by me, the food and service were very good, usual JAL J.

I saw the 787 parked at BOS in the evening and was wondering what happened. Its usually only there briefly in the afternoon before turning around. Not a good sign that there are so many issues with this already..

I was at Logan on Sunday afternoon/evening taking Swiss to Zurich. JAL had monopolized most of the counters there including the ones used by Swiss. There was a bit of tension when Swiss showed up and told the JAL folks to vacate the counters... The counters were divided into "transfers" and "hotel" - they put everyone up at the Logan Hilton who did not want to transfer. Seemed to be handled very well. Agree with Pickles that most pax were Japanese.

I just checked a booking I have for an unrelated reason when I got a notice of a flight change. Searching through the booking, I found the notice was for JL36 SIN-HND NOV 19. The times changed from 2155-0550+1 to 2200-0540+1 with 787 removed from "Aircraft type" (which is now blank).
Any idea's about what's happening?

Any idea what exactly is going on over there at JL with their 787's? If memory serves NH didn't have quite as many problems when they first took delivery of these birds.... :(

Actually NH had some problems with their 787's too and had to switch to 777 on their HND-FRA route temporarily too. But this is just a aircraft rotation and might have to do with the mid-Oct launch of 787 service to SIN. But I would have expected them to switch out 787 on other routes instead though

So there could be more potential problems to the GEnx engine :(

Currently sitting at D44 in SIN waiting to board JL36 (flightrader24 says its JA828J). Was meant to have just departed. Boarding has been pushed back twice now. They are saying "technical issue". Saw someone having a look at around the forward landing gear area on the captains side. No details on expertflyer yet.
At 2220 (meant to depart at 2200) they said that they had reset the air systems and cabin lights and screens weren't available until after take off.
At 2230 they took pre boarding down, then they turned around and came back. Another 10 mins, boarding now...
Arrived in Tokyo about 1h40 late. (The BA/LHR flight had just pushed back and the AA/JFK flight was boarding when we arrived at the gate). They had to reset the air conditioning system and no IFE or overhead lights were available until after we reached cruise height.
They had staff at the gate ready to rush the pax connecting to the JFK flight over.
The 787 is nice, though I'd like to fly on one longer to make a better judgement (hopefully NRT-BOS sometime next year). Only complaint is it takes too long to change the setting on the window.

JL008 on Dec 4 went tech resulting an aircraft change. JL007 was delayed as a result of late arrival of JL008. I wonder if it is the same 787 causing all these delays
